Book of the Month it is a monthly book subscription box. Every month they release 5 new books which have been selected by their panel of Judges. Books are announced on the first of the month, and members have six days to decide which book they would like to receive. Monthly subscriptions include one book, but members can purchase up to two additional books each month for $9.99 per title. They kindly sent us this box for review.
I look forward to this subscription every month. It has sparked my love for reading, and provides me with fun new books every month. It’s a reminder to take time for myself, which is extremely important for us all. I don’t know about you, but reading is my way to unwind and relax. If you love to read but maybe can’t find the time to fit it in, I highly recommend getting a subscription to Book of the Month. When a brand new book shows up on your doorstep every month you can’t help but set aside some time to read…..even if it’s only 10 minutes here and there….every little bit counts.
Here’s a look at my book choice for July:
Final Girls by Riley Sager
Ten years ago, college student Quincy Carpenter went on vacation with five friends and came back alone, the only survivor of a horror movie–scale massacre. In an instant, she became a member of a club no one wants to belong to—a group of similar survivors known in the press as the Final Girls. Lisa, who lost nine sorority sisters to a college dropout’s knife; Sam, who went up against the Sack Man during her shift at the Nightlight Inn; and now Quincy, who ran bleeding through the woods to escape Pine Cottage and the man she refers to only as Him. The three girls are all attempting to put their nightmares behind them, and, with that, one another. Despite the media’s attempts, they never meet.
Now, Quincy is doing well—maybe even great, thanks to her Xanax prescription. She has a caring almost-fiancé, Jeff; a popular baking blog; a beautiful apartment; and a therapeutic presence in Coop, the police officer who saved her life all those years ago. Her memory won’t even allow her to recall the events of that night; the past is in the past.
That is, until Lisa, the first Final Girl, is found dead in her bathtub, wrists slit, and Sam, the second, appears on Quincy’s doorstep. Blowing through Quincy’s life like a whirlwind, Sam seems intent on making Quincy relive the past, with increasingly dire consequences, all of which makes Quincy question why Sam is really seeking her out. And when new details about Lisa’s death come to light, Quincy’s life becomes a race against time as she tries to unravel Sam’s truths from her lies, evade the police and hungry reporters, and, most crucially, remember what really happened at Pine Cottage, before what was started ten years ago is finished.
Book of the Month Review July 2017 – Final Thoughts
It has been a long time since I read a thriller….a very long time. Part of me is very excited to dive in to this book, and part of me is a little scared. But, that’s what intrigues me. I have always been a fan of horror movies. I find them exciting and suspenseful. They scare the crap out of me, but I love it. The question is, will I feel the same way reading a thriller as do watching one. Final Girls receives 4.5 out of 5 stars on GoodReads, which is my new favourite place to research books. The reader reviews are pretty awesome. People seem to love this book. They say that it sucks you in from page one and that you can’t put it down because you are compelled to get to the bottom of the various mysteries throughout. After reading the reviews I am even more excited to get this one started. I kind of want to go start reading it now…..
With reviews like this “OMG, this book is absolutely brilliant, fast paced, packed full of twists and totally and utterly unputdownable.” how can I not start reading it right this moment?!
XOXO
