For review purposes we receive different box themes at random. If it were my choice I would definitely go with Teenage Dreams or Blind Date. It appears as though we received the Thrill Seeker subscription this month – two handpicked Mystery/Thriller novels. Let’s have a closer look…..
Death of a Nurse by M.C. Beaton
James Harrison has recently moved to a restored hunting lodge in Sutherland with his gorgeous private nurse Gloria Dainty. When Hamish visits Mr. Harrison to welcome him to the neighborhood, the old man treats him very rudely. Gloria apologizes for her employer’s behavior, and Hamish takes the plunge and invites her out for dinner. On the appointed evening, Hamish waits for Gloria at the restaurant. And waits. Gloria never shows up. Four days later, Gloria’s body washes up on the beach near Braikie. Now without a date and without his former policeman Dick Fraser (who left the force to buy a bakery), Hamish must find out who killed the beautiful new resident of Sutherland, and why, before the murderer strikes again….
The Directive by Matthew Quirk
After escaping the corrupt back rooms of Washington, DC, Mike Ford is again playing a dangerous game–this time the stakes are even higher.
Mike’s brother is in over his head in a powerful conspiracy to steal a secret worth billions of dollars from the little-known but unbelievably influential trading desk at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. In an effort to help, Mike soon finds himself trapped by the dangerous men in charge–and forced to call on all the skills of his criminal past in order to escape.
In this sharp, pulse-pounding sequel to THE 500, Mike Ford again stars as the cunning and courageous ex-con man with a big heart, and Matthew Quirk confirms that he is one of the most exciting thriller writers at work today.
BookCase.Club Review December 2017 – Final Thoughts
It appears as though both books we received this month are part of a series. The Directive is a follow-up to “The 500” (#1 in the Mike Ford series) and Death of a Nurse is #31 in the Hamish Macbeth series. unfortunately I’m one of those people who can never start a movie or book series in the middle so I would have to read the other books before I read these. I wonder if you can request to receive books that aren’t part of a series? It’s definitely something for me to look in to because I absolutely LOVE the idea of this subscription. BookCase.Club is the most reasonably priced book subscription on the market. You receive two books every month for only $9.99, which is pretty darn amazing, and shipping is only $5. How can you go wrong?!
XOXO
