A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles

Each box includes a product card with a brief description of the contents. I’ve quoted from it in italics.

“Our book this month is A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. This is a fascinating dive into an old Russian noble secluded in a hotel in the middle of the Russian Revolution. It has been regarded as one of the best books of the past five years. This book will make a great addition to your bookshelf. ($17)”

Here’s more from the publisher:

“In 1922, Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, and is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, an indomitable man of erudition and wit, has never worked a day in his life, and must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. Unexpectedly, his reduced circumstances provide him entry into a much larger world of emotional discovery.

Brimming with humor, a glittering cast of characters, and one beautifully rendered scene after another, this singular novel casts a spell as it relates the count’s endeavor to gain a deeper understanding of what it means to be a man of purpose.”

Spring cleaning is all about clearing out the cobwebs and this much-heralded novel sounds like an excellent choice for any reader looking to sweep away some old or limited ways of thinking and dust off a new perspective. I gifted a few copies of this one two Christmases ago after reading fantastic reviews but haven’t gotten to it myself.

Ceramic outdoor mug by Exploria

“This is the perfect vessel for your daily cup of coffee at the home office, or for hot cocoa near a blazing fire. ($20)”

When filled with your favourite coffee (perhaps exploring blends from around the world?), this generously-sized mug is sure to get you through mountains of paperwork and help keep you going until you climb into bed.

Travel manicure set by Bennkai

“The perfect set to keep with you at all times. Never let a hangnail get you down again. ($25)”

Consider this small-but-mighty collection of nail tools the armory in your battle against unkempt cuticles. A handy, handsome set in a pocket-sized case. Keep it in your dopp kit and use it on the regular.

Wool blend beanie from Lucky Pheasant

“This beanie is the union of form and function. It keeps your head warm, while simultaneously looking great. ($30)”

Unstated and cool while keeping you warm, making you a style multitasker.

February’s Culture Carton is valued at $92 and man-oh-man, it hits the mark. Four is definitely his lucky number with this quad of quality and style.

What do you think of February’s box? Is there someone in your life who’d enjoy it?
