The Curiosity Box by Vsauce is a very unique subscription box for curious people and thinkers! This is the second box I’ve had the chance to review, and I was pretty excited to see it arrive. We loved the first one, and were very curious to see what they were going to do next. Each box includes premium science toys, experiments, and collectibles designed for curious adults. The boxes are curated by popular YouTube science educator and inventor, Vsauce. He takes his out-of-the-box ideas, teachings, and inventions and packages them up into this unique subscription box – it’s truly an experience like no other.

Unboxing the Fall 2024 Curiosity Box by Vsauce

I knew we loved the first box (the summer box, you can check out that review here) and because the Curiosity Box by Vsauce is such a unique box, I couldn’t even begin to imagine what they would have included in the fall box!

They always include a really beefy “magazine” that includes details about the products as well as some tips, fun facts, and other helpful content related to some of the items inside. I love this addition to the box to help make the most meaning of each of the items inside.

Let’s take a closer look at what was included in the Fall 2024 Curiosity Box by Vsauce…

Body Deck: Ok this was really neat! It’s a deck of playing cards that you can see through, with various sections of the body – that when stacked together, turns into a 3D image of the human body!  It’s an actual playing deck though, so you can totally play your favorite card games with it.

It’s a fun way to get familiar with the human body and for sure a card game conversation piece!

EDC Multifool: “This everyday carry (EDC) card has been designed with excruciating attention to detail to be extraordinarily useful in very, very specific circumstances….the kind a curious mind might find themselves in.  Features: Kangaroo Safety Gauge (KSG), Earth’s Schwarzchild diameter, Lego attachment, protractor of architectural inclines, human pinky length ruler, relativistic centermeter (stationary inch) ruler, thermometer, “hello” in ten distinct languages, bottle opener, and socket for M7.53 hex bolt.” 

Wow, I don’t even really know what to say about this one – I’m familiar with the concept of an “every day carry” card – which are generally super useful cards that have all kinds of cool things on them like phone stands, magnifying glasses, various screwdrivers etc. but I have to say, I have no idea how I would ever use any of the novel features on this one! Maybe that’s why they call it a “multiFOOL” and not a multiTOOL”?  Jokes on us!

Ambigram Escape: “An ambigram is a typographic design with different meanings depending on how you view it. The con is a Curiosity Box exclusive, designed for one specific purpose – to give you an edge in coin flips!”

First, you have to solve the puzzle in order to remove the coin inside. Then, the ambigram is on both sides – one word that looks like “Heads” when it’s turned one way, and “Tails” when it’s turned the other way. So interesting! It’s hard to imagine how someone could create such an intricate ambigram – but I’m here for it! My kids got a real kick out of this one, and we’re still trying to figure out how to solve the puzzle to get it out!

Uranus is a Black Hole T-Shirt: At first I thought this was a silly (borderline dirty) joke – but after I read more about it in the magazine, I was totally wrong (and kind of embarrassed!).  This is actually pretty fascinating – so stick with me here. On our EDC card, one of the features is the “Schwarzchild Radius” which is basically the calculation for defining the distance from the center of mass at which gravity is so strong that escape velocity of an object is the speed of light – making it a black hole. Basically, any object compressed smaller than its Schwarzhild radius will become a black hole! So, the black circle on the t-shirt is the exact size of the Schwarzschild radius of Uranus – the size it would need to be crushed down to in order to become a black hole. Whew, that was a bit brain bendy!

Euclid Book: This is a revised edition of the legendary 1847 volume written and illustrated by Oliver Byrne – the most used mathematical textbook in human history. Byrne’s edition had certain misprints and minor errors, which have been painstakingly sought out and corrected by an international team and presented here in published form, for the first time!

It’s really cool to see the handwritten notes in the margin of the book, handwritten calculations, and more.  Definitely a very unique publication that math lovers and curious thinkers would love!

The Curiosity Box by Vsauce Fall 2024 Review – Final Thoughts

Absolutely packed with thought-provoking fun, this season’s Curiosity Box did not disappoint! From the clever ambigram coin, fascinating insights about black holes, and the super cool deck of cards – every item was very creative and piqued my interest.

It’s exactly the kind of box that sparks curiosity and keeps the whole family engaged. I love how each product, no matter how quirky or unexpected, ties back to a bigger scientific concept, making it more than just a box of “toys”— it really feels like a launchpad for learning.

I especially appreciate the magazine they include that brings each item to life and gives a lot more context and opportunities for learning to pair with each item.
