GLOSSYBOX Review May 2021

Hello beautiful people! I hope you had a great long weekend with some time to rest and recharge. We were supposed to get a lot of rain but it was blue skies and sunshine from start to finish. Which brings me to May’s summer-ready GLOSSYBOX. “Let the Sun Shine” is the theme of May’s edition of the monthly skincare and cosmetics subscription box, this one with products to prep your skin and hair for the sun and heat. *

* They kindly sent this box for review.

GLOSSYBOX offers four subscription options (all prices in USD):

Shipping in the US is free and shipping to Canada is $5/box + any duties and customs fees.

Each box typically delivers five deluxe or full-size products valued at $60+.

First up is the product guide, a pamphlet with brief descriptions of the products, tips on how to use them and the retail price, as well as each brand’s web address and Instagram handle. May’s also came with a $25 discount for Velvet eyewear. The pair of sunglass I like is $55 so the discount is actually quite good.

Nails Inc. Nail Polish

May’s GLOSSYBOX came with six products, two of them different from what was in the product guide. Instead of a liquid highlighter and a sunblock I got this nail polish and an eyebrow gel you’ll see at the bottom of this post. Nail polish is one of my favourite products to see in a beauty box and this Nails Inc. one is really good — streak-free and one coat and you’re done — only Glossybox included it in a box last spring. Same colour even (Blossom Kisses). I wish they’d sent a different one since I still have lots of the first bottle but I’ll gift it. ($11) Also it’s neither a skin or hair product but that’s okay.

Uriage Thermal Water (Travel Size)

“Packaged directly at the source in the French Alps and filled with mineral salts, this skincare water is just what you need to moisturize, soothe and protect your skin. It’s perfect for those hot summer days ahead! ($3.50)”

I’ve used thermal waters from three other brands and I really can’t tell the difference between any of those and this one by Uriage. All spray a super fine mist of cool water that feels so lovely and refreshing — ahhhhh *spritz spritz* I can’t get enough! A bonus product for Glossybox subscribers.

Aveda Nutri-Plenish Leave-In Conditioner (Travel Size)

“Shield your hair from UV rays and heat damage with this 98% naturally derived formula. Free from silicones, parabens, and sulfate cleansers, it protects from the drying effects of the sun, leaving your hair nourished all day long. ($12/30ml)”

I spend most of my time outdoors in our shady backyard so I’m not sure this conditioner is something I really need but I’m happy to try it anyway. Plus it’s Aveda and they have a reputation for great products.

Kneipp Valerian and Hops Mineral Bath Salt — Dream Away (One Bath)

“After a busy day, nothing’s better than a pampering bath! These stress-relieving salts promote better sleep thanks to the calming benefits of Valerian essential oil. The pure, uncontaminated thermal spring salt cleanses and naturally detoxifies. ($4)”

It’s not unusual for me to toss and turn for ages before finally falling asleep but maybe these will help?

Earth Harbor HELIOS Anti-Pollution Youth Ampoule (Full Size)

“Unparalleled in strength for combating pollutants and daily skin stressors, this ampoule is a necessity for skin in need of aftersun replenishment, bold defense against the elements, and thriving barrier function. It restores antioxidants, normalizes skin pH, and smooths fine lines. ($48)”

I’ve used a few Earth Harbor products and they’ve been lovely (their Glow Juice face mask in this post is especially great) so I’m happy to try another product from the brand. I’ve only used this one for a few days so it’s too early to notice a difference but it smells wonderful and it’s all the good things: plant-based, vegan, fair trade, gmo-free, cruelty free, etc.

Bellapierre Cosmetics Stay-Put Brow Gel (Chestnut)

This is the other swap in the box. My brows are thin and sparse and need all the help they can get but the chestnut colour is too dark for me. Gifting this one. ($25)

So a couple of misses in May’s GLOSSYBOX but still an excellent value for the price — this one worth $103.50. Oh and plus the $25 discount code for Velvet eyewear, which is a pretty great bonus if you can use it.

How does May’s GLOSSYBOX grab you? See any favourite products or ones you’d like to try?
