Ipsy Review December 2016

Ipsy Review December 2016

Ipsy is the world’s largest and most passionate online beauty community. Co-founded in 2011 by YouTube trailblazer Michelle Phan, Ipsy is centered around the award-winning Glam Bag, the #1 beauty discovery and sample subscription service with over 1.5M subscribers. A Year of Boxes pays for this subscription.

Ipsy is one of my favourite beauty boxes. Whenever I’m asked to recommend an inexpensive women’s box, Ipsy is always on the list.

Subscription Details

Ipsy subscriptions are very straightforward, and I often refer to this box as the perfect “starter box”. If you are just discovering the wonderful world of subscription boxes, this is a great one to start with. But at the same time, it’s also perfect for us seasoned professionals. You have one subscription option to choose from, and you get to fill out a beauty profile prior to receiving your first bag. I have been an on-again, off-again subscriber for the past four years. Let’s have a look at the items I received in my December bag (note: not all subscribers receive the same items).

First up we have the adorable little makeup bag. We receive a new bag every month, and it’s one of my favourite features when it comes to Ipsy subscriptions. I always have a makeup bag in my purse, and it’s fun to switch it out every month.

OFRA Cosmetics – Bliss Eyeshadow/Highlighter

Shine on. We love how easily this shimmering champagne shade glides onto lids and adds a hint of holiday sparkle to every look. Touch and believe. Soft texture practically melts into skin. Staying power. Made to last and last and last and last (you get the idea…). Goes both ways. Use it dry or with a wet brush for a more intense effect.

I am loving this color, but I hate the fact that it didn’t come in its own compact. I don’t have a compact to add this too, so as sad as it is, I probably won’t end up using it.

Jersey Shore Cosmetics Peppermint Moisture Rich Hydrating Balm

Champagne wishes and candy cane dreams. We’re toasting the holidays with the delish scent of peppermint and super soft pouts. Now all we need is the mistletoe. Get ready to kiss up. Sunflower oil, cocoa butter, and coconut oil moisturize even the driest and most chapped winter lips. Keep it natural. All organic ingredients are good enough to eat (although we don’t recommend it). Aromatherapy, anyone? The invigorating smell gives us a quick hit of the get-up-and-goes in the morning.

Wow, this brand is definitely making a statement. I just received it in another December beauty box. I kind of like the fact that I get to try out a couple of their products. And, I’m a sucker for any kind of peppermint balm. I love the tingle.

Tarte Cosmetics – Tarteist™ Glossy Lip Paint in WCW

Snow queens, rejoice! This glossy (but not too glossy) berry color nourishes and soothes dry lips—and gives a perfect pop of plum to winter whites. Here to plump you up. Conditioning serum hydrates and makes lips appear fuller. Concentrated pigments deliver crazy rich color and spectacular shine with zero stickiness. Long-distance winner. Made to make it through cocktail hour (and cocktail glasses).

I love this brand, and always get so excited when I see it in my beauty boxes. And, this lip color is perfect for Winter. I don’t know if I am brave enough to wear it, but I’m certainly going to try.

MAKE – Moonlight Primer

Ever heard of High Energy Visible Light (HEV)? We hadn’t either. But it’s a thing—and you’re looking at it right now. HEV is the light from our laptops and phones which (gasp!) can lead to premature aging and skin damage. And this first-of-its-kind primer protects us from the rays. So we can get back to worry-free snapping, with no need for a filter.

I love the idea of this product, but it’s such a tiny little sample that I just can’t get excited about it. It’s kind of a waste, and I feel really bad saying that.

Royal & Langnickel – MODA Angle Shader Brush

Made to fit. The angle on this brush is perfect for applying shadow right in the crease of the eye. Plus, it works with creams or powders. Win, win, and win. Makeup lesson. The bristles are made of synthetic fibers, which gravitate towards one another for more precise application and won’t trap makeup. Oh, and they’re vegan-friendly.

This is exactly what I need. I love the look of a darker shadow in my crease, but I still haven’t mastered the application process. I’m looking forward to trying this brush.

Ipsy Review December 2016 – Final Thoughts

When I first received my December Ipsy bag I was a little worried, it felt so thin, like nothing was inside. All the products I received this month are tiny, so it almost feels like the value isn’t there. But at the same time, I received some great brands, and some fun products. It’s probably not my favourite bag, and I would have liked to see a different item in place of the primer, but other than that it was pretty good. Oh, and I really wish the shadow came in its own compact. On a brighter note, I am wearing the lip balm as we speak, and it’s perfect – my lips are soft and tingly!

What do you think of this month’s Ipsy bag? Was the primer a hit or miss?

XOXO
