Mapleblume Review August 2019
“Babies don’t need a vacation, but I still see them at the beach … I’ll go over to a little baby and say ‘What are you doing here? You haven’t worked a day in your life!'” — Steven Wright • How are our beach days almost behind us already? Summer has flown by (not that I mind; fall’s really my jam) and here we are almost at the end of August. I have a couple of August subscription boxes to review that still haven’t arrived so you’ll probably be seeing those early next month, but I DO have August’s Mapleblume box and it’s a really good one. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s a quarterly subscription box of luxury cosmetics and skincare with at least five full-size or deluxe sample-size products in every shipment.*
*They kindly sent us this box for review.
You can subscribe for a new box every quarter (the box ships in February, May, August and November) for $120 CAD per box or buy a single box to try for $130. Shipping within Canada is free and subscriptions can be cancelled any time. (You just need to let Mapleblume know by the 15th of the month before the next shipment.)
Here’s what’s in the August Mapleblume box. (All prices in Canadian dollars.)
Mālayā Organics Soothing Beauty Bar — Rosemary & Lemongrass ($18.30)
The anti-inflammatory and skin softening Comfrey Root combined with antibacterial Lemongrass, antioxidant Rosemary, squalene rich Olive Oil, and moisturizing Coconut Oil make this beauty bar the perfect soothing cleanser for your whole body and a rejuvenating experience with its refreshing scent.
I really like rosemary and lemongrass so this bar is right up my alley — my only quibble (and I rarely say this) is that the scent is so delicate. I wouldn’t mind a little more punch. On the upside, it definitely won’t overpower any other scented products you use.
Mālayā Organics Moisturizing Body Oil — Citrus & Bloom ($59)
Post bath, shower or sunbathing, massage this body oil into your warm skin. It’s a luxurious botanical blend that nourishes and rejuvenates the skin into glowing health and sublime softness! A perfect harmony of precious and rare ingredients that have an anti-inflammatory effect and increase elasticity while hydrating and revitalizing dry or sun damaged skin.
This oil feels sooo luxurious, and a little goes a long way. Absorbs quickly into the skin so you can get dressed and on with your day and still feel like you’ve given yourself some TLC.
Luxe Botanicals’ Kigelia Corrective Moisturizer ($112)
A lightweight, vitamin and antioxidant rich gel moisturizer powered by Kigelia africana, a gentle skin purifying botanical that addresses unsightly skin concerns and supports cellular regeneration. Natural peptides restore the appearance of youthful suppleness while Kigelia africana works naturally to calm the look and feel of skin.
You know how I feel about moisturizers — I’m always so hesitant to use them for fear of breaking out.)This one feels really light and I love the gel formula so maybe I’ll give it a go. My chin’s been flaring up lately so I’ll wait ’til that clears up.
Pure Anada Strawberry Kiwi Lip Scrub ($8)
Gently exfoliating, this organic sugar scrub makes lips kissably soft and prepped for your favourite balm or lippy!
I know I’m going to want more of this come winter time when my lips tend to get dry and chapped. It really does make your lips super smooth and soft.
RMS Beauty Signature Set — MOD ($59)
The perfect summer palette! It contains some green beauty cult favourites like the Living Luminizer and Master Mixer, as well as two different pops of colour, Smile and Spell, in the multipurpose Lip2Cheek. The Simply Cocoa Lip & Skin Balm is a gorgeous extra touch that can be used to hydrate your lips or any dry areas on your face that needs a little extra love.
I’m pretty light with makeup year round and find the colour in my lips and cheeks tends to disappear by mid-day so I really like this all-in-one palette to throw in my bag for quick touch-ups when I’m out and about. The Lip2Cheek feels great on both my lips and my cheeks and the colour is so flattering! (I think so, anyway.) The formula is non-GMO, soy free, gluten free, and cruelty-free.
I’m really enjoying the mix of products in August’s Mapleblume box. It’s a luxurious assortment of new-to-me brands with plant-based ingredients that I feel good about using. Everything arrived carefully (but not excessively) packaged, with no leaks or spills which can sometimes happen with beauty boxes. The full-size products are large enough to last a several months, making it a great value for a luxury beauty sampler. Total value of Mapleblume’s August box: $256.30.
What do you think of the Mapleblume box? Would you try it?
