Here’s a closer look at the items I received in the August box……
Ceramic Vase
One of the many things that I like about this box is the handmade items that are shipped all around the world from Ireland. This is just one of the two hand-made items that was shipped in the this month’s box. This is a ceramic vase designed by Rebecca Killen.
Pink bottle with striped gold rim. Glazed on both the inside and out this bottle can hold liquids, single stem flowers or is perfect as a unique decorative piece for the home.
“Rebecca Killen, a graduate of Belfast School of Art, is a ceramic designer-maker living and working in County Down, N. Ireland. With a love of curating collections of complementary objects, Rebecca aims to create ceramic products that can evoke memories, a sense of nostalgia or serve as decorative pieces in the home to be used and treasured for years to come. Our bottles, dishes and vessels are made in small batches using the slip casting technique. Currently Rebecca is experimenting with surface texture and layers of colour on her pieces, this initial exploration has inspired the new Bay Collection”
Jigsaw Creation by Saturday Workshop
‘Your Beautiful Irish Cow’ is a handmade wood jigsaw creation by Saturday Workshop based in Sandymount, Dublin. Saturday Workshop consists of a father and daughter team: Edward is a retired chartered engineer and Iseult is an architect. They work together on weekends to create original wooden objects, decor, and toys, primarily out of Irish beech wood sustainably sourced from fallen trees. This is something that is near and dear to my heart. I love the idea of Edward and Iseult taking reclaimed material, recycling it, and turning it into beautiful works of art!
‘Say Cheese’ Card
The last item in the box is a card entitled ‘Say Cheese’ by Kelly Cards . They are trade publishers of quality Irish made greeting cards. Based in Bailieborough, Co. Cavan, Republic of Ireland. Their aim is to produce high standard blank art / photo cards that the sender can be proud off and the recipient delighted with. They are delighted to be able to launch our new range of black and white cards entitled “Lost Moments”.
It is part of Kelly Cards’ range of black and white cards entitled ‘Lost Moments’ which feature images sourced from the National Archives of Ireland. These cards pop up frequently in My Ireland Boxes, but this particular one is a nod to the hardworking women of the old Irish farm who worked day in and day out to keep the farm running and provide for their families. It’s a great nostalgic image. More photographs can be viewed at http://www.waterfordmuseum.ie.
If you love Ireland or know someone who appreciates the history of the Irish. I would recommend this box!
Until next time…
XOXO
