My Ireland Box Review July 2018

One of the most beautiful places that I have ever been is Ireland. I have family in Ireland, which isn’t too shocking since my last name is McFarland, eh? When I was asked to review this particular box I was extremely excited. I felt as though the week I spent in Ireland wasn’t enough! I needed to learn more about the country that my ancestors came from! And learn I did!

From their site:

“Every month, a themed My Ireland Box delivers to the USA, Canada and Australia, the best in Irish Design, Accessories, Home, Natural Beauty, Irish Music, Jewelry, Apparel, Irish culture & tradition galore from Ireland, to your doorstep. My Ireland Boxes include full-sized Irish made surprises that are expertly curated by Katharine & her team from Dingle Co. Kerry Ireland, in the heart of Irish tradition and culture.”

$45 per box + $10.50 Shipping

In this month’s box we were following the history of The Blasket Islands! They are indeed magical!

Twenty Years A-Growing

The book we received is Fiche Bliain as Fas or Twenty Years A-Growing. It was written originally in the Gaelic Irish language in 1953.

This book is full of stories from Maurice O’Sullivan that he heard while growing up, proverbs, folk-tales, and the story of his life!

Real Irish Turf

Something else that I loved about this box was the Real Irish Turf that I was sent by Bog Buddies!

This is supposed to be lit and it will create the aroma of a real turf fire! Turf was extremely important to the Islanders and they only had a seasons supply at a time to keep them warm throughout the season. They used it for heat, cooking, and for light!

It really did smell like Ireland to me! Made my heart wish I was there!

Music

One of the MANY things that had me falling in love with Ireland was the music. We went into a couple of pubs in Dublin and I loved the live music that was playing throughout.

It felt as though it was touching my soul. Something that had me swaying and loving every moment of it!

Another thing that I loved is that they included a Tin whistle by Feadog! The Original Tin Whistle and also gave us a YouTube channel that will give Irish Tin Whistle Lessons! How thoughtful is that?!

And last but certainly not least were the pamphlets and the booklet that told us all about the Na Blascaodai or The Blaskets by Padraig Ua Maoileoin. It has a wonderful recount of the history in The Blaskets and is a calming read.

If you love Ireland or know someone who appreciates the history of the Irish. I would recommend My Ireland Box!

Until next time…

XOXO
