Here’s a closer look at the items I received this month….
January Theme – Refreshing New Year
“We always like to start to think of the new year as the perfect time to leave behind old habits and start fresh! To get you started, we’ve included skin care, hair care, and makeup that will make you feel like a brand new version of yourself.”
Included in every NoMakeNoLife box is a mini pink booklet detailing all of the hand-picked products each month. You’ll get in-depth descriptions, instructions (in English, of course) and upcoming news!
Lucky Wink Hair Curlers (Japan)
“In January’s box comes a Lucky Wink hair curlers set in 30mm, 35mm, or 40mm! Use these to easily curl your hair without heat.”
Each set comes with 3 colorful rollers and a clear attachment tube that you can use to combine two rollers into an extra long one. The rollers have burr-like hooks all around, which grip to your hair really well giving it easy lift and volume. I wish there were a few more curlers in the set since 3 definitely isn’t enough to style the whole head. However, if you only want to style your bangs or front pieces than this’ll work nicely!
Jasmine Hair Cream (Japan)
“New year, new hair? This moisturizing hair cream will make your hair feel soft and shiny and it also has a lovely jasmine scent.”
The Jasmine Hair Cream is more of a styling hair lotion that can be applied to the ends of dry or towel dried hair. It has a lightweight texture that adds smoothness and shine to any hairstyle without weighing it down.
Kracie Rose Candy (Japan)
“Not only is it important what you put on your skin, in Japan people also pay attention to what they eat for beauty and health. Give these delicious rose-flavored candies a try, you’ll surely get addicted! (Not Vegan)”
Candy that gives your skin a boost with collagen, vitamin C, and hyaluronic acid? Yes please! These pink chewy candies are technically rose flavored, but to me, they taste a lot like rose and lychee. I haven’t seen any noticeable improvements to my skin yet, but they’re so delicious, I eat one a day!
Farmstay Princess Waterproof Eyeliner (Korea)
“Eyeliner on fleek with the Farmstay Princess Waterproof Eyeliner! No sweat or tears can stop you from looking fabulous 24/7 in 2020!”
The Farmstay Princess Eyeliner is a super pigmented black liquid liner with an easy-to-use brush tip. The brush applicator is thin, which makes it a breeze to achieve thin or thick lines depending on the amount of pressure you put on the brush. The liquid liner dries down matte and is truly budge, smudge, and water proof!
Papa Recipe Bombee Honey Mask (Korea)
“It was about time that we included the famous Papa Recipe Honey Face Mask! Apparently it has been sold over 500 million times worldwide and now you have the chance to try it at home! In your box comes one in gold, pink, or green.”
I’ve personally purchased and used the Papa Recipe Bombee Honey Mask several times before and I love it! The sheet mask comes soaked in a nourishing essence that leaves the skin moisturized and supple. If you have dry skin, this mask will help eliminate dry flakes and rough patches!
Beauty World Yoghurt Face Pack (Korea)
“Feel refreshed with this yoghurt face pack! It moisturizers your skin and comes in one of these fruity versions: strawberry, yuzu, or peach.”
The Yoghurt Face Pack is another dry skin savior this month! This mask has a thick creamy texture that you can slather onto your skin and leave for 5-10 minutes and then rinse off. The emollient texture really sinks into the skin leaving it plump and renewed. Plus, the yuzu one smells great!
Pure Vivi Moisturizing Cleansing Foam (Japan)
“Start the new year with fresh and moisturized skin. The Pure Vivi Moisturizing Cleansing Foam removes makeup and moisturizes your skin at the same time!”
Wash off all of your makeup and dirt with this gentle foam cleanser! Most foam cleansers tend to be drying, but this cleanser contains amino acids to moisturize the skin while you cleanse. I usually only wear a thin layer of tinted moisturizer on my face and it removes that with ease. If you wear thicker foundation or waterproof makeup, I’d recommend using an oil based cleanser first!
Mystery Beauty Item
“We’ve included a mystery beauty item just for you! This could either be a blast from the past or something new for you to try.”
I’m not a huge fan of “Mystery Items” since these tend to be throwback items that are overstock. This month I received the Awapeccino Whip Cream Face Wash set, which was featured in the August 2019 box. It’s a great tool to turn cleansers into a thick fluffy foam, but I’ll be gifting this set since I already own one!
NoMakeNoLife Review January 2020 – Final Thoughts
This month’s NoMakeNoLife box was a major improvement from last month’s let-down, even though it was still full of both hits and misses. I’m not a fan of single-use masks counting as “full-size” items since that affects the overall box value. However, these masks were a huge help for my dry skin this winter. What I did enjoy was the greater variety of fun items like the Lucky Wink Hair Curlers and Kracie Rose Candy! Plus, I loved the Farmstay Princess Eyeliner since a cat-eye is a must in my daily routine. Though I wasn’t blown away this month, I’m excited to see what February has in store!
