This month The Literary Book Club is offering a limited edition box featuring The Turn of The Screw—perfect for the spooky season! This box is not part of the regular subscription—it is available for one-time purchase through the end of October 2024.
They kindly sent us this box to review.

Unboxing the October 2024 Limited Edition Literary Book Club
This limited edition box is different because it’s a stunning black color instead of the usual gold. It definitely caught my eye and I was excited to see how the limited edition boxes vary from the regular subscriptions.
When I opened it, it still had that beautiful, classic feel that The Literary Book Club does so well. The chic crinkle paper with the wax seal closed envelope to reveal the title of the book. It’s just so good! I absolutely LOVED the navy color combo.
The Book
This special edition box features the classic “The Turn of The Screw” by Henry James. In this hair-raising tale, a very young woman is hired for her first job: a governess for two weirdly beautiful, strangely distant, oddly silent children, Miles and Flora, at a forlorn estate… An estate haunted by a beckoning evil. With growing horror, the helpless governess realizes the fiendish creatures want the children, seeking to corrupt their bodies, possess their minds, and own their souls. This gorgeous Chiltern hardcover edition is perfect for displaying on your shelf after you finish reading.
Each box also includes a little swag bag that goes along with the book. It includes a bookmark, bookplate, and sticker.
The book itself is always a custom-printed collectible. The detail of the florals on this edition and the simple color pattern brings me so much joy. I don’t know how I can possibly display all of the beautiful editions they send—I might need to implement some kind of rotation!
The Gifts
Part of what makes The Literary Book Club such an experience is the way that they wrap and number each of the gifts inside the box. Each gift goes along with the book in some way, and you can choose to either unwrap them all at once or enjoy each one as you reach the page number associated with the book. I really love how this really immerses you in the story.
While You Read
Every box includes a special treat to enjoy while you read. This box includes a delicious chocolate biscotti, perfect for dipping into your favorite book-reading beverage. You can also enjoy it straight out of the package for a crunchier sweet treat.
Page 19
Once you get to page 19 you can peek into your first present. This envelope contains Dr. Pete’s Rosemary Garlic Boule Mix and it smells divine. Boule is a round crusty bread, and this mix requires no kneading. Just add water, cover for 12 hours, then bake. This mix is hand-crafted in small batches in Ailey, Georgia.
Page 66
On Page 66, we get to open this literary candle from Hearth & Hammer in the scent Aged Page. I never need a reason to get a new candle and one that smells like old books—is there anything better?
Page 98
The next gift (opened on page 98) will pair perfectly with the page 19 gift—two gingham bread bags from Dot & Army. These linen bags will fight mold and keep your bread fresh for 3-5 days.
The Last Page
Once you’ve finished the final page, you can open your last gift. This limited edition box includes a bonus book titled “The Valancourt Book of Victorian Christmas Ghost Stories, Volume Five” edited by Christopher Philippo. Perfect for bridging the gap between the spooky and chilly seasons, this book highlights rare ghostly tales of Yuletide terror from Victorian England.
Featured here are gems by once-popular but now-forgotten 19th-century masters of the supernatural like Amelia Edwards, Barry Pain, and Florence Marryat, alongside contributions by totally obscure authors like James Skipp Borlase, a writer of penny dreadfuls who specialized in lurid Christmas horror stories, and Harry Grattan, who made history by writing the first ghost story recorded by Edison for the phonograph.
Art Print
The Literary Book Club always includes an 8×10 art print in each box as well. This specialty box’s print reads, “Of course, I was under the spell, and the wonderful part is that even at the time, I perfectly knew I was”. I love that the print and all of the extras tie into the beautiful artwork of the book edition.

The Literary Book Club Review Final Thoughts
I love unboxing The Literary Book Club. Every box feels like a cozy, thoughtful gift from a friend, and this limited edition is no exception!
If you loved this box as much as I did and want to get your very own, this limited edition is on sale through October 31, 2024. If you aren’t able to get your hands on one, I believe they’ll be releasing another limited box in December, or, you can subscribe to the quarterly subscription for next season’s box!
