I love RawSpiceBar, but I am always a little late to the game. I think I get my package last out of all their subscribers, but let’s be honest, when you have a last name that starts with the letter “Z” you are use to being last. Any who, my April RawSpiceBar is here and that’s all that matters.

This month’s RawSpiceBar features spices from South Asia, they have included a few recipes and spices inspired by the Indo-Persian fare. I’m not overly familiar with this cuisine so I am really excited to learn more and test out some recipes.
Rose & Cardamom Blend – This is the spice I am most excited about. I like to see a spice that can be used for sweet dishes in the package every now and then. The recipe they have included for this one is Rose & Cardamom Kulfi, but it calls for a lot of milk so I found a few vegan recipes on Pinterest that I am going to try instead – see my RawSpiceBar Pinterest page HERE.
Parsi Garam Masala – I’ve heard of Garam Masala many times before and think I have even used it in a dish or two in the past. The recipe they included for this one is a Chicken Curry but I am going to try making Yellow Curry and Vegan Masala Mac and Cheese instead.
Kala Namak Cumin & Chile – I’m a huge fan of cumin, and chile, so this one will be fun to cook with. However, I am not familiar with Kala Namak and had to do a little research on it. I found out that it is actually used in vegan dishes to give them egg flavour – potato salad, egg salad, etc. This makes me even more excited to try it.
Thoughts: When I first opened this month’s RawSpiceBar package I wasn’t overly excited about it, but after I did a little research on the spices and looked up some vegan friendly recipes, I changed my mind and now consider it one of my favourite packages. I found a really great chia pudding recipe for the Rose & Cardamom Blend, and am really looking forward to making some vegan egg salad with the Kala Namak Blend…….yay for vegan friendly spices!!
