The Memphis Flavour Kit

Barbeque is king on the Memphis food scene.  In ths BBQ town, sugary sauces are omitted from the menu.  Instead, Memphians prefer so called dry rubs – Freshly ground spice blends of paprika, black pepper, and cayenne, with just a touch of brown sugar for sweetness.  This month, we’re replicating the dry rub ribs that have put Memphis on the BBQ map. In this rub,

Greek influences such as oregano and garlic meet traditional Cajun spices like paprika and chili powder.  For our side dish, hickory smoked salt is the star of our creamy potato salad (recipes on the blog) while our Super Berries is great for an acai breakfast bowl!

The Super Berries

Ingredients: Amla, Acai, Turmeric, Ginger, Wild Blueberries, Lacuma, Spirulina

Yum.  This recipe looks so good!  Smoothie bowls are really popular right now and this one looks too good not to mix up!

Smoky Chiles & Mustard Memphis

Ingredients: Toasted Yellow Mustard Seeds, Smoky Paprika, Onion, Garlic, Black Peppercorns, Celery Seed, Thyme, Oregano

I am such a big fan of proper BBQ!   There is just nothing else like it.  I really like that RawSpiceBar is still providing good seasoning and recipes for those summer dinners.  I am definitely not done with summer yet!

Hickory Smoked Sea Salt Hickory

Ingredients: Hickory Smoked Sea Salt

Yum!  I love Hickory and it’s mentioned twice in this blend haha!  It must be good.  I feel like you could add this salt to pretty much anything and it would be amazing!

RawSpiceBar August 2017 – Final Thoughts

RawSpiceBar is such a good box to keep you inspired in the kitchen!  Their recipes are always on season to make sure you’re getting the most out of your food and taste experience.  It’s a simple box as far as a ‘food’ box goes, but just enough to get those creative juices going.  I would like to see them grow a bit and provide larger quantities or different subscription options for your spices.  There really only is just enough spice for one dish and if you love something you often want to make it again and again!
