RawSpiceBar Review January 2016

One of the things I love most about RawSpiceBar is the recipe research aspect. Every month after I receive my RawSpiceBar package I sit down with my coffee, open up Pinterest, and start researching new recipes I can make with the spices I received that month. I rarely use the recipes they include in the envelope, mostly because I try to find vegan friendly versions. I have even started a Pinterest board to keep all my potential RawSpiceBar recipes organized – CLICK HERE

This month’s RawSpiceBar features spices from Egypt. It’s really interesting to learn about spices from different countries each month. Apparently the three most popular spices in Egypt are cumin, coriander, and cinnamon. I happen to love all three of those spices, especially coriander, so this month’s spices mixtures should be right up my alley.

Egyptian Spices – This is a mixture of coriander, cumin, cinnamon, paprika and other spices. The recipe they included for this spice is Parchment Roasted Egyptian Spiced Bronzini, but seeing as it calls for a whole fish, and that kind of creeps me out, I am going to make Egyptian Spiced Carrot Puree on toast instead. You can see the recipe on my RawSpiceBar Pinterest page – CLICK HERE

Hazelnut Dukkah – This is a mixture of hazelnuts, sesame seeds, coriander, cumin, fennel, and a few others. The recipe they included for this spice is Toasted Faltbread & Dukkah, which basically just involves dipping bread in olive oil and then the spice itself, so…..of course I had to find a recipe that was a little more involved. I am going to try Blackforest Bliss Balls or Dukkah & Avocado Toast, see recipes HERE.

Ground Sumac Berries – This is a new spice for me, and it only contains one ingredient – sumac. I’m actually surprised I’ve never used this before because it smells absolutely AMAZING!! The recipe they included for this one is Sumac Carrot Salad with Almonds & Olives but I am going to try Sumac Rubbed Salmon or Twice-Baked Sweet Potatoes with Feta and Sumac, see recipes HERE.

Thoughts: When I first looked at the recipes in this month’s package, I have to be honest, I wasn’t too excited. However, after I did some research and found recipes that were a little more suited to my taste preferences, the excitement level started to build. I love everything about this subscription, except for one thing…..it makes me wish I had more time to spend in the kitchen…….or that testing out recipes could be my full-time job….maybe one day.

XOXO
