The Burmese Flavour Kit
Burmese food, like most cuisines, combines flavours from many regional parts, and is uniquely dominated by a combination of strong, sweet and savoury flavours, without being sweet or spicy. Rice is the cornerstone of many diets and is often eaten as noodles or rice cakes. We’ve included RawSpiceBar’s Lemongrass Rub for making ginger sliders or zucchini or rice coconut milk noodle bows.
I love cooking and creating in the kitchen, but I have to admit, I’m a little clueless when it comes to spice mixes. This is why I love RawSpiceBar, it takes all the guess work out of what spices to put with what, and what flavours mix well together. Not only do I get my spices ready-made, but they also include a few excellent recipes to get the creative juices flowing!
Tea Leaves Rub
Ingredients: Black Darjeeling Tea Leaves, Cinnamon, Black Peppercorns, Red Chiles, Cloves, Ginger, Himalayan Pink Salt
The recipes included for this spice mix are a Tea Leaf Rubbed Baked Salmon and Tea Leaf Salad. I’m so happy to see some summery eats in this month’s box! I’m feeling ready for those lighter dishes.
Himalayan Pink Salt
Ingredients: Himalayan Pink Salt
I’m a little addicted to Himalayan Pink Salt. It’s the only salt I keep in my house and I put it in everything, including my water! The benefits of this salt are amazing and even in water it can provide amazing absorption to your cells. There is no recipe included for the salt. My recommendation? Just put it on everything!!
Lemongrass Yellow Curry
Ingredients: Lemongrass, Kaffir Lime Leaves, Black Peppercorns, Coriander, Cumin, Garlic, Turmeric, Ginger, Galangal, Spices
This has got pretty well all my favourite spices in it! It smells wonderful, really light, but full of spice. The recipes included for this mix are Burmese Lemongrass Ginger Sliders and Lemongrass Coconut Milk Noodles. Again, both sound super light and ready for summer patio dinners!
RawSpiceBar May 2017 – Final Thoughts
I love this month’s spices. The lemongrass in particular is really nice. The only down side to this box is the packets are really only a one time use. Not to worry too much though, as you can purchase larger quantities on the RawSpiceBar site! Consider the subscription box more of your sampling pack each month to test new flavours and tantalize your taste buds. For only $8 a month this box is a bit of a no-brainer for those who need a little extra inspiration in the kitchen, or for those who are always looking to try something new!
