Here’s a closer look at our June spices…….

Pwason Griye

Grilled fish, “Pwason Griye” is the most popular fish dish on the Seychelles Islands, right after Octopus Coconut Curry. The whole fish is grilled and served at the beach when family and friends come together on Sundays. Garlic, ginger and chili peppers are the key ingredients in it’s seasoning. Serve it with a tropical tamarind-tomato chutney.

Our Spice Kit Includes:

  1. tamarind, garlic, ginger, black pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg cloves
  2. cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, cumin, thyme, coriander, white pepper

This makes for a healthy meal, complete with protein, veggies and a carb. Serve it with rice or quinoa. I might also add a few more veggies to the mix and grill them with the fish.

Kari Koko

This one-pot curry dish offers three sides: a fresh-fruit salad, rice, and “Ladob”, a coconut side with sweet potatoes. If you are too busy to make all for one dinner, save the Ladob for a dish with grilled fish. Or go for a Ladob banana dessert with our online recipe.

Our Spice Kit Includes:

  1. turmeric, cinnamon, coriander, onion, chili, cumin, garlic, curry leaves, fenugreek, ginger, yellow mustard, cardamom, black pepper
  2. nutmeg, cinnamon

Curry just happens to be a favourite. With this dish I can substitute the chicken breast for eggplant, or maybe even grilled tofu.

Quinoa Salad

Quinoa is a grain dating back to the pre-Columbian cultures in Latin America. With its protein, dietary fiber, polyunsaturated fats, and minerals, quinoa remains an important nutrient source for Quechua and Aymara people in the Andes region of South America. In their language, quinoa means ‘mother grain’.

Our Spice Kit Includes:

  1. aji panca, cumin, oregano
  2. green jalapeño

I LOVE quinoa salad. I could eat it every day, for lunch and dinner. This will probably be the first recipe I make. It calls for tomatoes, cucumber, green onion, avocado and cilantro. It sounds amazing.

Smorgastarta

It looks like a cake with a savoury decoration. The inside is a layered sandwich filled with everything you can imagine as long as you combine it with mayonnaise and eggs on sandwich bread. This recipe is one easy version. You can also make four single “cupcakes” instead of one large cake. Popular are different fillings for each layer and rich decorations.

Our Spice Kit Includes:

  1. horseradish, green peppercorns, fennel, dill, celery

This is the only recipe in the June collection that I’m not too excited about. But with that being said, it looks like it would be fun to make and would probably make for a good potluck dish.

SpiceBreeze Review June 2018 – Final Thoughts

The June SpiceBreeze collection has a couple of recipes I am really excited about – the one-pot curry and the quinoa salad. I could definitely see the quinoa salad becoming a go-to recipe in my collection. I love a quick, easy, healthy salad and that’s exactly what it is. I would love to see more recipes like this in future collections. Now that Summer is here I gravitate towards fast meals that are full of veggies. But at the same time I love the variety of recipes we received. Once again SpiceBreeze has done a lovely job.

XOXO
