If you have been following the blog for a little while you will know that I LOVE to read. I only really started reading again a couple years ago and now I feel like I am making up for lost time. I want to read all day every day. And……I am kind of obsessed with book subscription boxes. I love receiving books in the mail! Don’t you??

What You Get: Each Sweet Reads Box includes the following….

Here’s a peek at the items we received in the July Sweet Reads Box…..

Warlight by Michael Ondaatje

As lovers of Ondaatje’s writing we wanted to share this magnificent piece of literature with you. As the narrator, Nathaniel says, “We order our lives with barely held stories,” and Warlight is a novel of stories and lives pieced together post-WWII London. We see adventure, suspense, and at it’s essence, a story of a young boy growing up, then piecing together his mother’s life after her death. If this is your first Ondaatje novel you will find yourself caught up in his poetic style, but perhaps at times overwhelmed by detail and imagery. Take your time, soak in the words and revel in the story.

The items we chose to pair with Warlight are designed to fit the setting and story. While Michael Ondaatje was born in Sri Lanka he is a Member of the Order of Canada.

At first glance I wasn’t really feeling the book choice this month, and when that happens, I head on over to Goodreads and do a little more research as there just might be something about the book that I’m not picking up on. After reading the full description it does sound quite interesting, but at the same time it appears to get mixed reviews. Some reviewers absolutely love it and some do not.

Peach and Rhubarb Tea

Delicious hot or iced this Peach and Rhubarb tea is perfectly delicious.

This arrived at the perfect time. I’ve been in the mood for tea but all the flavours I have on hand are best served hot. I’m excited to make a big ol’ jug of iced tea…..perfect for an afternoon spent reading.

Dry Ginn Fizz Gummies

The classic British drink in a gummy is perfect for a summertime treat while reading Warlight.

Typically I’m not really a candy girl, I prefer chocolate or salty snacks, but there’s something about these gummies that just sounds really good right about now. Especially when paired with my jug of iced tea.

V&A Ribbon Bookmark

The leading museum of art and design located in London designed these beautiful bookmarks.

As funny as it may sound, I always forget to use a bookmark. I feel like I need to put this one beside my bed and just leave it there. Or I need to make myself a bookmark box, just so I always know where they are.

Warlight Candle

We love these custom candles made by Etsy Shop FromthePage “Candles for Bookish Souls” – the perfect light to read by and a way to bring light to the shadow cast by war.

This candle is small……but it is amazing. It’s a vanilla soy candle and it smells like heaven. It is vanilla, and sugar and candy and all that fun stuff.

Unwind Coaster

We chose these coasters because they reminded us of time taken by Nathaniel’s mother (Rose) once she stepped away from being a spy. We hope they remind you to take a bit of ‘me time’ this summer.

This coaster is absolutely gorgeous! It will be perfect for my desk. Just looking at it makes me feel calm and relaxed. Also a great little accessory for my afternoon reading session.

Sunflower Microgreens

Nathaniel’s journey takes him to Marsh Felon as he works to piece together his mother’s life. We chose these greens as they represent; mailed letters, growing and gifts.

I am super excited to test out these micro greens. Simply open the package, remove the seed package, add water, stir, add the seeds, stir again and place in a sunny area.

Sweet Reads Box Review July 2019 – Final Thoughts

Have I told you how much I love my Sweets Reads Box deliveries? I’m pretty sure I have, but it’s definitely worth mentioning again. I have been reviewing this Canadian Book Subscription Box for a few months now (more than a few months) and it’s safe to say I am a huge fan. I love the passion and energy that goes in to curating each box. I love the thought that goes in to the book choice and I love how they curate the other items in the box so that they tie in to the book. It’s a lovely subscription and a wonderful unboxing experience. And…….I LOVE that each box includes a beverage and treat to enjoy while I read. Love, love, love!
