Sweet Reads Box Review March 2022

Sweet Reads Box is one of my favourite subscriptions. Each month you get a newly released novel, something delicious to eat and drink alongside, and a variety of bookish items cleverly tied to the story — think a candle that smells like the protagonist’s coffee shop, a journal like the one another character won’t leave home without, and cozy socks to keep you warm in the book’s winter setting. The contents are always a surprise so you get the thrill of discovering something new and then the delight of experiencing the world of the book. Dreamy, right? *

* They kindly sent us this box for review.

Sweet Reads Box is based here in Ontario and sources most of its products from Canadian companies. You can subscribe for three, six, or 12 months or buy boxes individually. Sweet Reads also releases a number of limited edition boxes throughout the year, all available to order by the box and ship across Canada and the US.

Each Sweet Reads Box comes with a product card with a guide to the contents on one side and a quote related to the novel on the other.

“Healing takes courage, and we all have courage, even if we have to dig a little to find it.”

— Tori Amos, American singer/songwriter

I’ll show you what’s inside the March edition and then share some thoughts after.

Just like Sweet Reads Box, I’ve used a Canadian flag 🇨🇦 to indicate Canadian products. The descriptions in italics are from the product card.

Sweet Reads’ March box included not one but two books! First, The Unsinkable Greta James by Jennifer E. Smith:

“Embark on a journey of inner and outer discovery with the James family set amongst the breathtaking landscape of Alaska’s Inside Passage. This heartfelt and quirky story is about a rock star daughter and her father, both struggling to find their footing after a tragedy as they attempt to untangle years of misunderstanding. Be a fly on the deck (or an Eagle) as Greta heals old family wounds, kindles and unlikely shipboard romance, and ultimately reconnects with her true self while sailing through life’s tough-to-navigate passages.”

Sweet Reads Box also included a letter from the author (not pictured here).

And the second book is one referenced in the novel. It’s The Call of the Wild by Jack London.

“We couldn’t resist tucking this treasure into the box for you to experience Alaska through Jack and Ben’s eyes. A favourite classic you’ll want to share.”

Bear Droppings Chocolate Covered Almonds · Walton Wood Farm · “A trip to the gift shop isn’t complete without an Alaskan-inspired treat. An energetic snack, the perfect fuel for hiking fjords.” 🇨🇦

Escape Cruise Lines Margarita Mix · Gourmet du Village · “Ben and Greta may have had a few too many, and now you can too. Perfect for Margaritas or Mocktails.” 🇨🇦

Greta James Solid Perfume · “The enthusiasm of Greta’s mom and her fans comes alive in this vibrant solid perfume. Notes of coastal moss, combined with shipboard grapefruit and rosemary. The ideal signature fragrance for an Indie Rockstar. Exclusive to Sweet Reads.” 🇨🇦

Vintage Inside Passage Bookmark · Woodly · “Journey along with Greta through the Inside Passage marking your page and adventures in the novel.” 🇨🇦

Totem Spirit (assorted styles; mine is Love) · Native Northwest · “Made from reclaimed wood, your Totem Spirit is a touchstone reminder to pay attention to what’s important. Each piece features art by a Haida artist. The Alaska cruise travels through unceded Haida traditional territory.” 🇨🇦

I love LOVE what Sweet Reads Box put together for March. I hadn’t heard of The Unsinkable Greta James but it sounds wonderful and I love how they included a copy of The Call of The Wild too. (One of the characters is a historian who lectures about the book.) The choco-covered almonds were scrumptious and as soon as we get another warm day I’m going to try that margarita mix. The solid perfume smells amazing (I’m wearing it now!) and the bookmark and the Totem Spirit are clever tie-ins too. I’m all set for my Alaskan cruise and I didn’t even have to pack a bag! If you’d like the March box too, a limited number are available to order here.

All Sweet Reads Boxes include shipping. The following prices are in Canadian dollars. US customers can order here.
