Here’s a peek at the items we received in the May Sweet Reads Box…..
The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah
From the first page we were instantly drawn into the time and place of the novel. The location, the era and the characters are expertly crafted. With relationships at the centre of this novel, Kristin Hannah’s beautiful writing creates a captivating story that is at times harsh, horrible and filled with love. We were so impressed by the novel that we couldn’t wait for the paperback release. While The Great Alone is a difficult read (this novel contains material about domestic violence that may trigger for some readers) and a heartbreaking story we hope you love it as much as we do.
This month’s book pick didn’t grab my attention right away, I always secretly hope for a thriller, but upon further research I discovered that this will be a really great change from my regular book genre. It is classified as a historical fiction and it receives great reviews. It’s the 2018 Goodreads Choice Winner. Here’s a little more info:
Ernt Allbright, a former POW, comes home from the Vietnam war a changed and volatile man. When he loses yet another job, he makes an impulsive decision: he will move his family north, to Alaska, where they will live off the grid in America’s last true frontier.
Sea Salt Toffee by Templeman’s Toffee
Surrounded by salt water, Ernt, Leni and Cora live off the fish they catch. We’ve tried candied salmon and we felt this would be a better sweet.
Yes! This is the perfect treat to enjoy while curled up with my new book. Pair it with the next item and all your worries will disappear…..
Northern Lights Coffee by Muskoka Roastary
The Northern Lights are a regular occurrence in Alaska making this the perfect brew for this novel.
Coffee is always a good idea…..especially when it comes to a book subscription. I often read first thing in the morning. I get up before the sun, the house is quiet, I make myself a cup of coffee and curl up in my favorite chair. It’s a great way to start the day.
Arrow Page Mates by Peter Pauper Press
With a retro/1970’s feel to the pattern these page mates are perfect for marking your favorite spots in the novel or journal. Plus, they make handy bookmarks too.
I am in love with these little page mates. I use to have a stack of these in my desk and used them all the time. I like the idea of marking my favorite pages or using them as bookmarks.
Matchbook Pads by Kickerland
Living off the land, matches were crucial to survival. While these matchbooks won’t start a fire they make a great notepad for reminders, love notes and more.
These tie in to the book nicely and they are super cute. Maybe a little too small for me to use, but I love them regardless.
Journal by Ecojot
A journal focused on love would be perfect for Leni and Matthew to write to each other. The retro artwork made this beautiful recycled and hand made journal a great tie in to the novel.
This is the kind of item that gets me very excited. My stationery loving heart is beyond happy. I love notebooks and journals, and if I’m not careful I will have 3-4 on the go at one time. I am going to save this one until my current book is full.
Sweet Reads Pen
Perfect for journaling, writing a love note or making notes in your novel.
Sweet Reads Box Review May 2019 – Final Thoughts
Sweet Reads Box is a must-have for any book lover. I may have said this before, but it really is one of my favorite subscription boxes to receive and would make an amazing gift for anyone who loves to read. They do such an amazing job every single month. I love the books they choose (some of them get me out of my comfort zone) and I love that all the other goodies we receive tie in to the book. It makes for a fun theme and a fun unboxing experience. I am in love with all the stationery items this month, as well as the goodies. The toffee and the coffee will pair together perfectly. It’s making me want to stop what I am doing, make a cup of coffee and curl up in my reading chair ASAP.
