*They kindly sent us this box for review.
The Good Lane is based in Alberta and ships across Canada and the US. Each box includes 5 to 8 products from artisans and small businesses, together valued at $130+. (All prices in CAD.)
- Single box — $110 + $15 flat-rate shipping.
- Seasonal subscription — $99.95/box + $15 shipping, paid seasonally.
- Annual subscription — $379.81 paid annually + $15 shipping per box.
The Good Lane tucks a pretty product card inside every box with detailed descriptions of the contents and the makers behind them. Many of the artisans and small businesses give back to their communities, including The Good Lane. Part of the proceeds of the box go to a different charity each season. For this edition it’s Food Banks Canada.
Organic cotton Furoshiki gift wrap · Your Green Kitchen · Nakusp, British Columba · “Meet your Winter Box eco-friendly swap — reusable Furoshiki gift wrap from Your Green Kitchen. Your Green Kitchen creates zero-waste kitchen linens and supplies. Linens are 100% GOTS organic cotton and include eco-friendly water-based inks. This gift wrap can also be used as a table centrepiece once opened. Furoshiki originated in Japan around 710 B.C. and was primarily used to wrap important goods and treasures found in Japanese temples! Nowadays Furoshiki is growing in popularity worldwide as a sustainable way to wrap gifts.”
I often use baskets instead of gift wrap but haven’t tried Furoshiki. Isn’t this wrap beautiful? And large enough for gifts of all kinds of shapes and sizes.
Clemente huggie earrings · SveJewels · Saskatoon, Saskatchewan · “Our featured artist in this season’s box is jewellery designer Svetlana Leonchuck, owner of SveJewels. Svetlana focuses on designed timeless jewellery staples that are all hypoallergenic. In your Winter Box you’ll find her Clémence huggie earrings. These lightweight, everyday earrings are handcrafted in Canada, hypoallergenic and made with stainless steel and a 18 karat gold coat, so they will never tarnish.”
Ahhhh these are so gorgeous! A classic shape and style, they’ll go with everything and never tarnish (love that too). My teen had a similar pair on her wish list for Christmas so I might tuck these away for her birthday in the spring.
Eco Book Pocket Notebook Set · Twigs Paper · Mahwah, New Jersey · “Twigs is on a mission to make the world a cleaner and healthier place by creating sustainable alternatives to everyday paper products. From sourcing the best recycled paper, to printing with eco-friendly inks, to shipping orders free of plastic. All of their cards, envelopes, notebooks, and packaging are made from 100% post-consumer waste. In your Winter Box you’ll find a kraft pocket notebook set perfect for note-taking, journaling, making to-do lists, jotting down ideas, or doodling. A fresh notebook is always the perfect way to start the New Year!”
I have a bunch of notebooks that I never write in because they’re too nice but these I’ll use for sure. (A back-handed compliment if ever there was, ha ha.) A great size for grocery lists and to-do lists and throwing in your bag when you’re out and about and need to write something down. I could write something in my phone I guess but I’m old school! (And honestly it never occurs to me.)
Hydrator Plus Shampoo & Conditioner Bar · Onsight Care ·Nelson, British Columbia · “Onsight Care creates sustainable, spill-proof, worry-free hair and skincare products that are perfect for travel and everyday use! All of their products are ethically made in small batches. In your Winter Box you’ll find their Hydrator Plus Shampoo & Conditioner Bar. This bar nourishes dry hair, includes only plant-based ingredients and is PH balanced, so it cleanses without stripping your hair or scalp. Each bar lasts around 50 washes taking the place of about two plastic bottles. Onsight Care also gives back, with 5% of all profits going to Rise Collective, a non-profit working to fight human trafficking.”
I’ve been curious to try a shampoo bar for a while now and this one has a conditioner too, which is brilliant. And 50 washes! Love to see it.
Hand Loomed, Recycled Cotton Throw · Rahab’s Rope · Gainesville, Georgia · “Cozy up this winter with your very own hand-loomed throw. The ultimate in sustainable comfort, this fair-trade throw is made from recycled cotton. As part of the process the recycled cotton is separated and spun into new threads, the threads are then dyed and re-woven into the beautiful throw! Rahab’s Rope is a 15-year-old non-profit that works with women and children in India who have been affected by human sex trafficking. 100% of proceeds from product sales go to fund this mission, through education and support in the areas of prevention, direct intervention and aftercare.”
This throw makes the box for me. It’s a great weight and size to use year-round and the neutral colours go with our decor.
I’ve been following The Good Lane since they launched in 2021 and I feel like their boxes have been consistently fab. The product quality is excellent, the items all ones I’ll readily use, and I love that they source from artisans and small businesses who are trying to make the world a better place. If you want to make your dollar go further and feel great about your purchase, The Good Lane is an excellent option. Just love this one!
