Unboxing the September 2024 Literary Book Club
The box is packed meticulously, something about the kraft crinkle paper, the stunning calligraphy, and the extreme detail of the wax seal always makes my heart skip a beat! It’s so elegant and intriguing, don’t you think?

The Book
Inside the card, the book for the month is revealed. This month’s book is “The Phantom of the Opera” by Gaston Leroux. In this dark and twisted tale you follow a series of mysterious events and murders. This romantic drama tells the story of Erik, a mysterious phantom who haunts the Paris Opera House. The Phantom falls in love with Christine Daaé, a beautiful soprano, and begins tutoring her in music. But Erik is enraged to learn that Christine is in love with her Childhood friend, Raoul. It’s a riveting novel of love and jealousy, and it is such a perfect fall read. Not to mention the gorgeous cover of this edition!
Each box also includes a little swag bag that goes along with the book. It includes a bookmark, bookplate, and sticker.
The book itself is always a custom-printed collectible. I love vintage flower prints and muted colors, so this design really fits my aesthetic and the gold-foil edges are stunning! And all of the printed pieces that come in the boxes would make gorgeous additions to any bookshelf or decorative nook—the attention to detail and the cohesion in each box is absolutely lovely.
The Gifts
Part of what makes The Literary Book Club such an experience is the way that they wrap and number each of the gifts inside the box. Each gift goes along with the book in some way, and you can choose to either unwrap them all at once or enjoy each one as you reach the page number associated with the book. I really love how this really immerses you in the story.
While You Read
Every box includes a special treat to enjoy while you read. This month they included two treats! The first is a single-serve cocktail or mocktail Cosmo mix from Leisuremann’s. Just add water and alcohol or soda, mix, and enjoy!
The bonus gift is perfect for my sweet tooth—a Crispy Treat from Blake’s in their Birthday Cake flavor. The only thing that can make a rice crispy better is adding sprinkles! These are also top 9 allergen free and made in a certified nut free and gluten free facility.
Page 36
Once you get to page 36 you can open your first numbered gift. This was a gorgeous top-bound spiral notebook featuring a quote from the book that reads, “In Paris, our lives are one masked ball.” The vintage flowers and Eiffel Tower transport you to the whimsical streets of France. The notebook is the perfect size—small enough to fit in your purse, but large enough for spacious note-taking.

On Page 66, we get to open this lovely floral pouch—I am saving all of these for future gifting and travel pouches. This surprise is a facial soap from Earth Harbor in the scent Rose Bay (Pink Sea Clay and Moroccan Rose). I plan on adding this to our guest bathroom because it’s such a pretty scent!

The next gift (opened at page 102) is the Champagne Hour shea butter lotion from avrybeauty. I am so picky about hand creams but this one is light and doesn’t leave any residue. I love its portable size and the scent makes me feel fancy!
The Last Page
Once you’ve finished the final page, you can open your last gift. This month is a bonus book from Leroux himself titled “The Mystery of ‘The Yellow Room’”! Often considered one of the best locked-room mysteries of all time, this novel has been adapted several times for film and television. The main character Joseph Rouletabille is more than meets the eye—a reporter by profession, he spends his free time working as an amateur detective, using his journalistic talents to compile facts and track down leads. Joseph Rouletabille is France’s answer to Sherlock Holmes, and I cannot wait to read it!
Art Print
The Literary Book Club always includes an 8×10 art print in each box as well. This quarter’s print reads, “All I wanted was to be loved myself.” My heart breaks! These art prints are so fun because you can dedicate a frame to the prints and switch them out each quarter.

The Literary Book Club Review Final Thoughts
