Subscription Details

Unplugged Book Box offers two options: a Young Adult book box or an Adult Fiction book box. Boxes cost $39.99 + shipping, with savings for longer term subscriptions. Each box will contain the book of the month plus 4-6 self care goodies that may include candles, shower or bath goods, tea or coffee, lip care, skin care, journals or notebooks, mugs, artwork or photography, bags, kitchen gadgets, baking kits, candy, bookish novelty products, and items that inspire creativity. Most items are sourced from small businesses.

The April adult fiction Unplugged Book Box theme is “Venom”. Here is a closer look at what is inside:

The Bone Maker by Sarah Beth Durst

“Twenty-five years ago, five heroes risked their lives to defeat the bone maker Eklor – a corrupt magician who created an inhuman army using animal bones. But victory came at a tragic price: only four of the heroes survived. Since then, Kreya, the group’s leader, has exiled herself to a remote tower and devoted herself to one purpose: resurrecting her dead husband. But such a task requires both a cache of human bones and a sacrifice – for each day he lives, she will live one less.”

“Kreya would rather live one year with her husband than a hundred without him, but using human bones for magic is illegal in Vos. The dead are burned – as are any bone workers who violate the law. Yet Kreya knows where she can find the bones she needs: in the battlefield where her husband and countless others lost their lives. But defying the laws of the land exposes a terrible possibility: maybe the dead don’t rest in peace after all.”

Crescent City Light

“In Sarah J. Maas’s Crescent City, we see a demon that uses venom. This is an exclusive reading light! It bends and can sit just about anywhere. Take it on the go or use while hanging at home.”

This will be so useful! It comes with a USB cord for charging. I usually like to stay up a lot later than my husband to read in bed, and a light like this will be great so I don’t have to keep the room lights on.

Romeo and Juliet Lip Scrub

“In the classic tale of Romeo & Juliet, we see what can happen when two feuding families create a toxic environment for our young lovers. This lip scrub was created by Bookish Balms exclusively for this box.”

Love a good lip scrub. Besides a good lip balm, using a lip scrub to exfoliate my lips often is so important to keep my lips smooth and moisturized.

The Secret History Candle

“The Secret History by Donna Tartt shows what happens to characters who slowly begin to change, becoming more evil than anyone thought possible. This exclusive candle was made by Beautifully Novel.”

Unplugged Book Box usually includes a candle, and this month is no different. The glitter on the candle is so cool and pretty! It smells amazing too.

Little Fires Everywhere Shampoo Bar

“In Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng, the characters live picture-perfect lives… until you look closer and see that Shaker Heights definitely has its own type of ‘venom’ coursing through some residents. This exclusive shampoo bar was made by The Fairy Hideout.”

Shampoo bars are a great alternative to reduce packaging waste. I have been seeing them around and am wanting to try one. So excited to get this! Can’t wait to give it a go.

Grey’s Anatomy Mug Cake

“Let’s go way, way back to the beginning of Grey’s Anatomy when Izzie Stevens would bake every time she felt down. Though Izzie has a generous heart, many of her behaviors were toxic and ‘venomous’. This mug cake was made exclusively for this box by Build a Cake Bakeshop.”

Another item I am so excited to try! I have heard so much about mug cakes, and can’t wait to try this too. You will only need to mix the contents with water in a mug, and pop into the microwave for some yummy cake.

The Bone Maker Hand and Foot Scrub

“This hand and foot scrub was inspired by The Bone Maker by Sarah Beth Durst – this month’s book. It is an Unplugged Exclusive by Natural Pure Honest.”

This scrub will be perfect to keep my hands and feet smooth and keep the dry skin away. The label design is so cool too!

There is also a Dracula bookmark in this box, as well as the monthly journal prompts. Unfortunately, the mug cake packet was leaking in my box, so these items were totally covered in it and I couldn’t really clean it off. I am so relieved that there was still enough cake mix left for me to try the mug cake though!

Unplugged Book Box Review April 2021 – Final Thoughts

I love a good fantasy story, and this month’s sound so intriguing! I can’t wait to get to reading this book to find out what Kreya decides to do and what would happen to her. Love the bookish picks for this month too. I am so excited to try the shampoo bar and mug cake. The reading light will be so useful, I can see putting it to a lot of good use during my late night reading sessions. Finally, the scrubs are perfect for some self care days. The inclusion of these items exclusive to Unplugged Book Box makes this box all the more special. Highly recommend Unplugged Book Box for all the book lovers out there! It’s great to be introduced to a good book every month while supporting small businesses.
