They kindly sent us this box for review.
You all know I LOVE book subscription boxes, but what I love even more is when they embrace the month/holiday/season and provide us with a box full of items to get us in the sprit of said holiday. For example, the October Unplugged Book boxes both had a theme and selection of items perfect for Halloween. This is exactly what I like to see!

Some hints for November…..
Here’s a closer look at the October Young Adult Unplugged Book Box….
Nightmare Before Christmas Glass Bottle
Jack from Nightmare Before Christmas is not quite satisfied with his life. Though he’s the beloved pumpkin king, he would prefer to push down that inner anger and embrace the cozy season of Christmas. This is an Unplugged exclusive bottle.
How fun is this glass bottle! I love it for a couple reasons. First, it’s themed after the Nightmare Before Christmas, and second, it’s environmentally friendly. How can you not love the little pumpkin topper!?
Dread Nation Candle
Dread Nation by Justine Ireland focuses on the character of Jane. Years of injustice are creating anger in her society. Terrifying zombies begin to rise and corruption consumes the government. Jane might just crack from all the pressure. This candle is an Unplugged Exclusive by Geeky Girl Scents.
I’ve said it before and I will say it again. Candles and books go together like peanut butter and jelly so I LOVE the fact that we usually receive one in our Unplugged boxes. Or do we actually receive one in every box? I am trying to remember.
Asylum Scrunchie
Asylum by Madeleine Roux follows Dan and his friends as the embark on a terrifying journey when they move into an old dormitory. The catch? The dormitory is home to a brutal and angry history as an asylum.
I’m kind of obsessed with scrunchies right now and this one will be the perfect accessory for Halloween day (today). I will be cooking, cleaning, and packing treat bags and this will keep my hair out of my face and allow me to be festive at the same time.
Classic Monster Wall Art
Nothing is more classic Halloween than some classic Monsters. These monsters might have been filled with their own rage in each of their stories. It was designed by Monster Man Graphic.
Loving this wall art and LOVE the classic monsters. I think it is so much fun. Maybe not something I would decorate with on a regular day but I am certainly going to keep it in my Halloween decor box for next year.
Coraline Pin
Having an angry “other mother” is not ideal, and poor Coraline from Neil Gaiman’s classic tale knows all about that.
Do you all love enamel pins as much as I do? I just love the look of them on an oversized denim jacket. I love that this one is collectible and wonder if we can expect more in future boxes.
Carrie Scrub
Angry bullies sure make Carrie’s life miserable….luckily for Carrie from Stephen King’s infamous story, she has powers to help her seek revenge. This scrub is 100% vegan and made exclusively by Holy! Scrub.
A Halloween themed box wouldn’t be complete without a tribute to one of the best Stephen King movies…..Carrie. I love this movie and love this scrub. Especially since it vegan and smells so dang good!
Eventide by Sarah Goodman
When their father descends into madness after the death of their mother, Verity Pruitt and her little sister Lilah find themselves on an orphan train to rural Arkansas.
In Wheeler, eleven-year-old Lilah is quickly adopted, but seventeen-year-old Verity is not. Desperate to stay close to her sister, Verity indentures herself as a farmhand. But even charming farm boy Abel Atchley can’t completely distract her from the sense that something is not quite right in this little town. Strange local superstitions abound, especially about the eerie old well at the center of the forest. The woods play tricks, unleashing heavy fog and bone-chilling cold…and sometimes visions of things that aren’t there.
But for Verity, perhaps most unsettling of all is the revelation that her own parents have a scandalous history in this very town. And as she tries to unearth the past, sinister secrets come with it—secrets that someone will go to violent lengths to protect….
A haunting tale of long-buried secrets, small-town scandal, and single-minded vengeance by talented debut novelist Sarah Goodman.”
Unplugged Book Box Review October 2020 – Final Thoughts
Ummmmm….how good does this book sound?! Typically I wouldn’t read a Young Adult book but this one sounds too good to pass up. It gets great reviews on Goodreads and readers say it’s the perfect Halloween read. Now…..do I start reading to today or save it for next year? I love reading books specific to the season and I’m wondering if I can get through it before I start craving wintery reads. Decisions, decisions…….either way I am in LOVE with the spooky vibes, Halloween themed goodies, and book choice for this month’s Unplugged Book Box!
