Bad Alibi Book Box Review December 2020

Bad Alibi Book Box is a new monthly mystery/thriller book subscription box from the US that delivers one recently released novel, three to five themed items, and a short story and mini mystery riddle submitted by Bad Alibi fans. Let’s take a look at December’s edition, “Trapped in Paradise.” *

* They kindly sent us this box for review.

Each Bad Alibi Book Box includes a product card with the theme on one side and a list of the contents of the other. This one has me dreaming of warmer climes (we’re knee deep in snow here in Ottawa).

December’s book looks fantastic! It’s a brand-new release by Susi Holliday called The Last Resort. Here’s the description from the publisher:

“When Amelia is invited to an all-expenses-paid retreat on a private island, the mysterious offer is too good to refuse. Along with six other strangers, she’s told they’re here to test a brand-new product for Timeo Technologies. But the guests’ excitement soon turns to terror when the real reason for their summons becomes clear.

Each guest has a guilty secret. And when they’re all forced to wear a memory-tracking device that reveals their dark and shameful deeds to their fellow guests, there’s no hiding from the past. This is no luxury retreat—it’s a trap they can’t get out of.

As the clock counts down to the lavish end-of-day party they’ve been promised, injuries and in-fighting split the group. But with no escape from the island—or the other guests’ most shocking secrets—Amelia begins to suspect that her only hope for survival is to be the last one standing. Can she confront her own dark past to uncover the truth—before it’s too late to get out?”

Last month I said I’d like to see Bad Alibi include more commercial fiction and here it is! The reviews on Goodreads are all over the place, from “I’ll never get those hours back” to a “brilliantly entertaining read,” but the plot is right up my alley. It’ll be the first book I’ve read by the author. Have you read any Susi Holliday?

Inked by Dani Temporary Tattoos

Next we have two packs of 20+ hand-drawn tattoos, one called jungle fever pack and the other the white-out pack. It’s been a long time since I’ve worn temporary tattoos but I think they’re fun. So does my teen daughter, so I guess we’ll be sharing these, ha ha.

Oh Wow Wax Melt Tray (Volcano)

I don’t have a wax melt warmer but I’ll have to get one because these smell really good, fruity and summery. They’re 100% soy wax and phalate-free.

Headband

This headband has a cute coffee-themed design that’s a play on Starbucks. I don’t wear headbands that often but I’m happy to use it when I’m putting on a face mask or just want to keep my hair off my face. If my daughter doesn’t swipe it first.

Lavendar’s Book Babes Scrunchie

The tropical pattern and colours of this scrunchie are perfectly in line with December’s theme. It’s totally summery but I’m wearing it already. Long live the scrunchie!

Skull Necklace

This skull necklace is the only thing in the box that’s a miss for me because it’s not my style (I like the gold and the length but wouldn’t wear a skull) but I’d love to see more necklaces in the future.

December’s box also included a one-page short story and a mini mystery submitted by Bad Alibi fans. The short story was really well written (creepy in the best way!) and the mini mystery stumped me. Great job, writers!

December’s Bad Alibi Book Box was really well done. I’m happy with the book selection, all but one of the tie-ins and the tropical theme (a fun distraction in the thick of winter). I’m curious to hear what you think of the box too!
