Book of the Month Review January 2019

Book of the Month is a monthly book subscription box. Every month they release 5 new books which they have narrowed down from hundreds of new releases (so you don’t have to). Books are announced on the first of the month, and members have six days to decide which book they would like to receive. Monthly subscriptions include one book, but members can purchase up to two additional books each month for $9.99 per title. They kindly sent us this box for review.

Book of the Month is one of the boxes I look forward to receiving the most. But I’m sure I have told you that before. And if I thought I loved this subscription before…….the December box arrived and my love increased tenfold. The December Book of the Month collection was epic!! Typically I find 1-2 books I have to read each month, but in December I found 4. I ended up reading 3 of the 4 books before my January box arrived and that’s a record for me. Normally I read one book a month but the December book choices were SO good that I ended up reading 3. If they put together a collection of books like that every month I would be in trouble because I would want ALL the books and I would want to read all day every day.

Here’s a look at my January selection….

The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word.

Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London.

Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations—a search for the truth that threatens to consume him….

Book of the Month Review January 2019 – Final Thoughts

The January Book of the Month collection isn’t as exciting as the December collection but I was still able to find one book that I really want to read. The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides is my book choice this month because I’m a sucker for a good thriller. This book intrigues me. It sucked me in before I even started the first chapter. I NEED to know why Alicia is refusing to talk. I feel like there’s going to be a pretty exciting plot twist at the end. I’m 1/4 of the way through and so far it’s a little slow but it’s starting to pick up and I feel the need to keep reading it.

Fingers crossed that the February collection is similar to the December collection. I’m hoping for a thriller, maybe a horror, and a holiday romance for Valentine’s Day.

XOXO
