BookCase Club Review May 2017

BookCase Club is a book subscription box. You receive Mystery Boxes filled with great books! Handpicked by their expert curators. Delivered to your door every month. Starting at $9.99. For every new subscription, they donate a book to Books for Keeps. Read books. Do good.  They kindly sent us this box for review.

When you sign up for a subscription you get to choose from 8 different book categories:  Thrill Seeker, Strange Worlds, Teenage Dreams, Read to Me, Blind Date, Booking for Love, Quarterly Cookbooks, Quarterly Military History.  Once you choose your theme you can then choose the length of your subscription – monthly, 3 month, 6 month or 12 month.

This month’s selection are from a bit of a darker side.  I can’t say I’m  huge fan of this.  Both these books deal with some pretty dark matters including the occult, murder, ancestral spirits and souls of the damned.  This might be exactly the type of book you love to hunker down with and read at night right before bed, but for me, these aren’t the types of stories I’m attracted to.  Good thing BookCase Club lets you select exactly what you’re interested in, from genra, age demographic and even non-fiction!  This way you are sure to get exactly what you want each and every month.

Sea of Shadows by Kelley Armstrong

About the author:  When librarians finally granted Kelly Armstrong an adult card, she made straight for the epic fantasy and horror shelves.  She spent the rest of her childhood and teen years happily roaming fantastical and terrible worlds, and vowed that someday she’d write a story combining swords, sorcery, and the ravenous undead.  That story begins with Sea of Shadows.
Armstrong’s first works for teens were the New York Times bestselling Darkest Powers and Darkness Rising trilogies.  All of her novels for teens have been New York Times bestsellers.  She lives in rural Ontario with her husband, three children, and far too many pets.

The books provided in this month’s box are about twice the length of others I’ve received.  I’m really loving this, as now that it’s pool side weather you want books that just wont end.  I also really appreciate that BookCase Club is choosing from an author that has a number of books out already, including trilogies.  This way you are sure to find more from the same source if you fell in love with the book provided.

The Diviners By Libba Bray

About the Author:  Libba Bray is the author of the New York Times bestseller Beauty Queens, the Printz award winning Going Bovine, and acclaimed Gemma Doyle trilogy.  She lives in Brooklyn New York.

Another huge novel to get you through those beach days, and again, another author with a variety of other books to choose from once you are finished this thriller!

BookCase Club May 2017 – Final Thoughts

I have been really happy with previous selections from this subscription!  Just this month I’m not as excited about these books and will probably pass them on to a friend who gets more out of this type of thrill seeking book.  The value of this box is unmatched really, when you consider it’s only $9.99 for two brand new books each month!  If you’re a speed reader and always need a new book on the waiting list, this is a great option.  I can get through a book pretty quickly when the weather is nice and have to say I’m happy with the little stack of books BookCase Club has provided thus far!  Can’t wait to pack them up in the beach bag and get some serious R&R.
