The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

Each Standard box includes a product card that describes the contents in brief. I’ve quoted from it in italics below.

First up, May’s novel: The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. “This book is one of the best ever written. The limited edition we have included will be a great introduction or re-introduction to the story. It will make a great addition to your bookshelf. ($17)”

My fella’s been trying to find his copy of The Great Gatsby for the past couple of weeks without success so this one was a welcome surprise. And like the Robinson Crusoe from the March Culture Crate it’s part of the Paper Mills Classics series, a handsome set of cloth-bound editions with metallic foiling and a ribbon to keep your page. Le monsieur likes the look and feel of both books and would be happy to see more in the collection.

Sous Shop Beer Cooler

Next, a Sous Shop beer cooler. “This can hold almost any 12 oz can and will keep it cool for however long you need. ($30)” For some reason we have 332 water bottles but zero coolers, so this one will come in handy for those hot days on the deck. It doesn’t feel like a $30 product but maybe it’s the Cadillac of coolers. Time will tell. We like the black but would like it even better without the logo on the side.

Sous Shop Cork Coasters

And from the same company, Sous Shop cork coasters. “A durable and stylist pair of cork coasters to keep things dry whenever you set your drink down. ($12)” Using coasters is a good habit to get into and these ones are perfect for everyday use. Again, not especially fond of the logo but they’re blank on the other side.

Culture Carton Bottle Opener

Culture Carton bottle opener. “A bottle opener slim enough to bring anywhere you need it. ($10)” Another handy item. I like the simple, slim design ‘tho the S is rather random esp. since it’s a Culture Carton product. If the S has significance I’d like to be told what it is since it doesn’t appear to have a connection to the box or to subscribers. (Oh! Could the S be for Subscriber? LOL)

King x Portland Socks

Last, King x Portland no-show socks. “Let your ankles breathe at the next cookout you attend. With anti-slip technology. ($15)” My fella wasn’t feeling the red but I can think of many men who’d wear these in a heartbeat. Soft and thin, the perfect summer weight.

While I’m not a fan of the branding on some of the items in May’s box, I do think Culture Carton did a great job curating this one. The book is a classic and the lifestyle items useful, versatile and not so precious that they can’t be used every day. May’s Culture Carton is valued is $84.
