Robinson Crusoe
This month’s book is Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe ($17). “This classic explores the story of a man lost on an island and how a person can overcome loneliness and desperation. This collector’s version will make a splash on your bookshelf.”
I haven’t read the book so I can’t speak to the story but aye matey, if you’ve ever felt at sea this shipwrecked tale is sure to have some appeal. And this edition is lovely. The red metallic foil is fantastic against the sea blue cover and the ribbon marker lends a certain elegance.
Cufflinks
Next, a pair of Brushed Formal Cufflinks from Bespoke 2112 ($14). “These are the perfect, subtle, addition to any formal outfit.”
I love the contrast of the chrome finish and the brushed nickel and they have a weight to them — both literally and aesthetically — that makes them feel expensive. A handsome accessory.
Tie
Next, a “classic, yet modern” Twillory Brown Herringbone Tie ($29). Skinny ties might not be in everyone’s comfort zone but I think they’re fantastic and definitely worth a try. The understated design and colour of this one makes it so versatile too.
Texting Gloves
Third, a pair of Everett Texting Gloves ($12), “an answer to the modern dilemma of using technology during colder weather.”
These were the only miss for me, but only because I think they would have been better suited to a fall or early winter box when they’d be more in line with our weather and get more use. This pair looks purple in the sunshine but they’re navy blue.
Cologne
Last, English Laundry Oxford Bleu Cologne (travel size, $20). “This sophisticated blue scent will be sure to draw compliments from anyone in your presence.” I’m not sure what “blue scent” refers to but this one smells amazing. I would definitely look for excuses to linger around the man wearing Oxford Bleu. From the brand website, “Top notes of Mint, Green Apple and Lemon slowly unfold into notes of Iris. Tonka Beans and Geranium, all while Vetiver, Vanilla Sandalwood and Oakmoss shape an experience you won’t soon forget.”
This is the third Culture Carton that’s come my way and I think it’s a gift that would appeal to so many, not only the gents but the people who love them. Separated from our families and friends in these unprecedented times, so many of us are looking for ways to show we care and honour occasions from afar. Culture Carton would make a great “I care” package for new grads, dads, readers, men entering the workforce or looking to step up their style, and on and on. I’d love to see the packaging elevated a notch or two, something more gift-ready and sophisticated.
