Summer Box Details
“From the Founder, We all have the power to reshape the future of our beautiful planet. Every thing we do, every decision, reflects our thoughts and values. It shows that we care, and the Earth very much needs us to care. Doing what’s right isn’t always easy (or fast!), but we can always take small steps for the better. It’s never too late to make a change. This season the Earthlove community voted to practice creating and keeping good habits consistently as the seasonal eco challenge-a truly worthy and important goal! As you embark on your own intentional journey, be gentle with yourself and others trying to make a difference. There will be peaks and valleys, feelings of triumph and defeat, but through it all know that positive change takes time and matters. Our Summer 2021 box features companies that are working hard to show that there is a better way too, from sustainable fashion made using upcycled saris to creating products that do not harm the oceans. I hope that this box inspires curiosity and joy on your own path to live mindfully with the Earth. Happy Summer, Earthlovers!”
Here’s a look at what’s in this quarter’s Earthlove box ($230+ total value):
Box Insert
Each quarterly Earthlove box includes a little magazine that includes the product information and value along with tips, DIY, inspiration, and stories to help you live more mindfully with the Earth. It’s really nicely designed and it’s even eco-friendly as it’s printed on FSC-certified paper using waterless printing technology. This quarter the magazine includes a welcome note from the founder, product information and value, exclusive member discount codes from the brands included, information on the featured cause of the quarter which happens to be about conserving salmon, the seasonal challenge which is ‘Creating Good Eco Habits’, a meet the makers interview from Plant Based Beauty, information on oceans from Stream2Sea, Five Zero Waste Kitchen Swaps from Net Zero Co., an article titled ‘Sustainable Fashion: A Rising Trend’ from GURU, reasons to love yoga and ayurveda, along with a bit of earth wisdom. So much good info packed in this little magazine.
BOOK OF THE SEASON ($15-28)
“Each season Earthlove boxes include one of three books. Here are our awesome picks for Summer: Our Wild Calling, Vegan Style, or What Would The Buddha Recycle.”
All three books this season were so wonderful! Since members can choose their book in each box, I really had a hard time choosing! I ended up choosing Vegan Style which is a really lovely book chock full of information on how to make choices for your wardrobe, beauty, home and travel all vegan friendly. It’s not only packed with information, interviews, articles and resources, but it’s also a really beautiful book to look at too. I can’t wait to read and find out even more things about vegan lifestyle choices than I already am familiar with. It’s definitely going to be a good resource.
GINGER & JAGGERY COLD INFUSION Tezahn ($8)
“This infusion of ayurvedic herbs is delicately crafted with the cooling properties of tulsi, warm zing of ginger and natural sweetness of jaggery (unrefined sugar) to create an exclusive aromatic flavor combination that keeps you uplifted, rejuvenated, and hydrated through the day. Drop a bag into water, shake, and enjoy!”
This was a community voted on item and I can see why it was chosen for the summer box – it’s a refreshing cold brew beverage that sounds perfect for hot summer days. I love that it’s different than a tea, yet is prepared much like one. It couldn’t be easier, you just drop a bag in cold water, shake and let brew for 5 mins. Based on the ingredients the herbs do sounds a bit internally warming, but add a little ice and it’s sure to be a cooling drink. I love that the herbs were chosen for their healing powers and look forward to trying this to see if it helps me feel more optimally well.
UPCYCLED SARI KIMONO Guru ($110)
“Who says sustainable fashion has to be boring? These airy and stylish upcycled sari kimonos are perfect for a trip to the beach or relaxing in the summer sun! Each one is uniquely hand designed by Canadian Guru founder Kathryn Boese and handcrafted from upcycled fair trade Ragsulla saris (most made from bamboo viscose or “art silk” – artificial silk) that have been collected by bartering with Indian villages. Note: Since the saris have history, they may also have minor imperfections that are camouflaged in the beauty of the design. Designs are one of a kind and will vary.”
Ok, now this is such a unique and beautiful item! I’ve not ever received something so interesting and one-of-a-kind in a subscription box before. When I heard this was one of the items in the summer box I couldn’t wait to get mine to see what unique and colorful fabric combination mine would have. I have to say, I love the bright and vibrant colors mine ended up with. The jade and mustard with pops of pink is just so beautiful (and trendy really). I love that it’s flowy and loose, but also has a belt (with cute little tassels) to cinch it in or keep the front closed when using as a robe (as apposed to using as more of a jacket). It’s use is so versatile and I appreciate that there are pockets of course too. And I love that it’s made from up-cycled fabric, you’d never guess. Oh, I just love this item and can’t wait to wear it around. Maybe for morning tea on the patio, as a cute accessory over a tank top or even as a swimsuit cover up – it’s going to feel so fancy!
STORAGE BAG SET Net Zero Co. ($47.96)
“Say goodbye to plastic bags! Net Zero Co.’s four-piece food-grade silicone storage bag set includes three different sizes (small, medium, and large), so they can cover all your storage needs whether that’s taking a snack on a hike or freezing fresh summer berries. They are cold and heat resistant (220C / 428F) with an airtight seal, keeping fruits & veggies crunchy and leftovers fresh for days. Simply slide the seal across the top to lock the contents inside. Also, keep track of lunches or leftovers with the writable surface. Dishwasher and microwave safe.”
I love having a stash of reusable storage bags and I don’t have any like these yet at all. I have other bags, but these just feel extra sturdy. At first opening the seal at the top seemed like it might be a bit cumbersome, but I actually quite like it as it really locks out any air and keeps it completely airtight. These would definitely be great for freezing soups or leftovers, but will make great regular storage as well. I like that they have measurements on the side and that they stand up for filling. I’m thinking I’ll likely use them more for fridge and freezer storage rather than on-the-go storage, but that’s only because of the fact there are two parts really. I wouldn’t hesitate to take them on the go if my other bags were being used though.
FACE MASK + SPOON Plant Based Beauty ($22)
“Keep your face glowing and hydrated with this organic, all-natural avocado + algae face mask handmade by Monica, founder of Plant Based Beauty. Instantly notice soft and clean skin from the nourishing superfoods of Avocado, Spirulina and Moringa that give your skin the vitamins it needs. Directions: Best used on damp skin directly after showering or cleansing. Place 1-2 scoops into palm & mix with equal amount of water to create a paste. Apply to face for 5 minutes then rinse with warm water.”
What a lovely sounding (and looking) face mask! I mean, that green color is so vibrant and rich, it just looks like it’s going to be a healthy dose of nutrients for the skin. Masks are my favorite skincare item to receive in subscription boxes because they often work for all kinds of skin types. This one sounds very gentle for skin and is made with super simple ingredients so really anyone should be able to use this and benefit from it. It’s really easy and I love that it comes with that cute wooden mixing spoon. This sounds like a great mask that needs trying out tonight!
SUN & STING SOOTHING GEL Stream2Sea ($13)
“Soothe your skin following sun exposure, insect bites or underwater stings! made with a potent antioxidant blend of Green Tea, Tulsi, Wakame, and Olive Leaf, this gel is free of nasties like phthalates, dyes, cinnamates, or benzophenones. Stream 2Sea is the only company in the world that is tested and proven safe for baitfish, freshwater fish, saltwater fish and coral larvae and their sunscreen and sun care products do not affect the natural behavior. Packaged in a biodegradable sugarcane tube, Stream 2Sea is also among the few to receive the “Protect Land and Sea Certification”. That’s quite a feat!”
What a perfect body care item for the summer months! Sunburn is the worst and so are bug bites – awesome this tackles both. I just moved to Texas where both of those abound during the summer months so I know this will come in handy. The ingredients including green tea, tulsi, seaweed, peppermint oil and tea tree oil sound fantastic for soothing skin to cool it and bring some relief to summer’s pesky ailments. I’m honestly hoping I don’t have to use this one much, but I’m really glad to have it on hand for when inevitably a sunburn or bug bite happens.
CUTLERY SET Full Circle ($15)
“This ocean-inspired three-piece cutlery set is the perfect companion for picnics, outdoor lunches, camping, travel, or trips to the beach! Made with recycled plastic bottles, this set helps divert plastic waste from landfills and eliminates the need for plastic utensils while on the go. Care Instructions: Hand wash the bamboo utensils with warm soapy water. Avoid soaking for long periods of time. Machine wash the pouch in cold water on delicate cycle, wash separately or with similar colors, Do not bleach, do not tumble dry, cool iron only.”
This is this nicest on-the-go cutlery set! I have a couple that are certainly handy and useful, but I love the soft and curved design on the utensil handles as well as the ocean colored storage bag they come in on this set particulaly. These will be great for taking along when we’re out and about this summer enjoying the weather or running errands. It’s the perfect size for tucking in a purse or the diaper bag.
Earthlove Review Summer 2021 – Final Thoughts
This season’s Earthlove box is just such a perfect curation of summer items! I love the summer season so much, it’s hands down my favorite, so any subscription box that really packs the summer vibes is top notch in my book. Of course this box is always one of my very favorites, so I knew the summer box would be great, but wow, they really went above and beyond with the uniqueness and value this season. I can’t get over how beautiful the sari kimono robe is, it’s really my favorite item since it’s so unique. But of course I can’t let it outshine all the other summer standouts like the refreshing herbal beverage, the cooling relief gel, the fresh-from-the-garden face mask, the storage bags to pack your actual garden haul in, the picnic perfect utensils, and the lovely poolside read. It’s really important to me that items in a subscription box, especially an eco-focused one, be useful so that nothing goes to waste. Once again, this box accomplished that while still making it a super fun and summer ready collection!
