August Box Details ($70 value)
“The August theme is: “Picnic Perfect Box” – Next time you prep lunch or pack a picnic, use these ecofriendly alternatives to plastic food storage.”
Summer is just wizzing by and I’ve not fit in one picnic yet. Thankfully this box theme reminded of that fun summer tradition and sent along great plastic free tools for making it happen. I’ve got to fit one in before the season ends!
Here’s a look at what’s in this month’s Essentials Crate box:
Wheat Straw Bento Box – ESSENTIAL LIVING ($24)
“Whether you’re packing a lunch or a picnic, this 3 compartment, bento box has got you covered. Made from wheat straw fiber, it’s BPA-free & an eco-friendly, biodegradable alternative to plastic. Comes with stainless steel utensils. Microwave & dishwasher safe.”
This is a great lunch box! I have a couple other bento boxes, but this one is great because it’s super lightweight and simple in design. Also, it’s awesome it comes with stainless silverware. Others I’ve seen come with plastic utensils so this is a great plastic free alternative. The box itself feels like a type of plastic so I’m so intrigued about it’s biodegradable abilities too. This will be so useful for lunch or snacks, or picnics like the theme suggests. I’m always on the go with a toddler so I know I’ll be using this a lot.
Beeswax Food Storage Wrap – ESSENTIAL LIVING ($20)
“So long saran wrap! Introducing beeswax wrap, a natural solution for food storage. Perfect to wrap cheese, avocados, veggies, fruit, cover bowls & more. These wraps are reusable, biodegradable, washable & can last up to a year with proper care.”
I’ve always loved the concept of this product – a totally plastic free way to cover bowls or wrap up food. They are easy to use and keep food just as fresh, if not fresher than the plastic wraps. I have a couple of these already, but the print on this one is really cute and I love that it comes in 3 different sizes. These will come in handy a lot I’m sure.
Silicone Ziplock Bags – ESSENTIAL LIVING ($26)
“These BPA free, reusable ziplock bags are the smarter way to pack sandwiches, snacks & even your toiletries. Made of platinum, food-grade silicone, they are nontoxic, odorless & leakproof. Microwave safe, oven safe, dishwasher safe & freeze safe. Comes in 2 sizes.”
I’m obsessed with these reusable bags and use them about every day so I’m so glad to have a couple more to add to my stash. They are so handy for packing lunches and snacks or for storing food in the fridge too. I know using this type of bag has really saved a ton of plastic for our family over the time we’ve used them. These are a household essential!
Essentials Crate Review August 2021 – Final Thoughts
Picnics are such a fun way to explore a city and enjoy nature at the same time. I love packing up on-the-go food for a relaxing meal out in a quiet park so this month’s theme is great! Everything you need for food storage is included and makes me want to go on a picnic right away. I actually have several of the items already, but I don’t think it hurts to have a back up of each, especially when you have big picnic plans like I do – fruit, charcuterie, sweets and more. Sounds delightful! Thanks to this month’s Essentials Crate box for the inspiration!
