GlobeIn Artisan Box Review April 2021: The Pause Box

GlobeIn Artisan Box is a monthly subscription box featuring handmade, ethically sourced products from makers around the world. Each month subscribers can choose from a selection of boxes curated around a theme. For March I received the Pause Box. Here’s a look inside.

Each GlobeIn Artisan Box is valued around $70 USD (sometimes more) and usually includes four to five items. Subscribers can also choose additional products to customize their box.

Subscription prices are as follows (all prices in USD):

  • 1 month — $40
  • 3-month subscription — $38/month ($114)
  • 6-month subscription — $35/month ($210)
  • 12-month subscription –$33/month ($396)

Shipping in the US is $10/month (your first box ships free); shipping to Canada $22/month (your first box ships free); and international shipping is $25/month.

Each box includes a welcome card with a picture of the contents on one side and QR code to the online brochure on the other. The brochure sets the tone for the box with an introductory message suggesting uses for the products, followed by a descriptions of the contents and the makers behind them. Unfortunately there seems to be a mix-up in the Pause Box brochure — the intro seems to be for a gardening/plant lover’s box and I can’t find the proper one elsewhere — but I think we can safely infer this box is about taking some time to pause and reflect.

Reactive Glaze Teacup, Vietnam

“Start your mornings with coffee or tea, warm affirmations, and a serene turquoise that will definitely send a sense of calm to your day.”

This teacup is beautiful! I love the ombre effect in the colouring, I just wish it was larger. My ideal mug hold 12 ounces or more and this one just eight.

Bolster Meditation Cushion, Vietnam

What the teacup lacks in size this cushion makes up for — it’s 22″ wide and 7” in diameter. I don’t meditate so I won’t use it for that but I think it makes for lovely decor. Made from assorted silks and handwash only.

One-Minute Handmade Hourglass, India

“The 1-Minute Handmade Hourglass has multiple uses! Have a pet or child in time out? Need to quickly time something on the stove? The hourglass is here to help!”

I’m not quite sure how I’ll use this hourglass but it’s a lovely piece. Maybe the kids could turn it twice for their two-minute tooth-brushings?

The GlobeIn Artisan Box Pause Box is lovely if maybe not the best fit for me. Each of the pieces are well made and I love the colour coordination of all three. What’s giving me pause however is the number of complaints I see online about the box. Month after month customers complain about considerable shipping delays, missing boxes, broken items that aren’t replaced, a lack of communication from the brand and on and on. I’d like to see GlobeIn address these concerns on multiple platforms (i.e. their website, Facebook, Instagram, etc) and if they have and I just missed it, by all means please point me to it in the comments. I’ve received several wonderful boxes in the past couple of years and I’m happy to support a company working to ensure living wages for artisans in impoverished communities but there has to be a fair exchange and from what I’m seeing there are a fair number of subscribers who are unhappy on several fronts.

Are you a GlobeIn Artisan Box subscriber? I’d love to hear about your experience.
