GLOSSYBOX Review April 2021

We did a lot of spring cleaning on the weekend and ahhh, it feels good. I mean we’ve still got miles to go but Rome wasn’t built in a day. When I’m organized and I’ve got good systems in place I feel good. And let’s face it — feeling good is the best motivation to keep going. April’s GLOSSYBOX is like a spring refresh too. The monthly skincare and cosmetics subscription box delivers typically five deluxe or full-size products. For $21 USD/month you get at least $60 in value (and often more). “We’re all in need of a revival, whether it all about spring cleaning, a new haircut or a fresh beauty routine. So reawaken your curiosity and discover new brands, ingredients, and colors with us this month!” Let’s take a look inside.

GLOSSYBOX offers four subscription options (all prices in USD):

  • monthly ($21/month, billed monthly)
  • 3 months ($58.50, paid upfront)
  • 6 months ($111, paid upfront)
  • 12 months ($210, paid upfront)

Shipping in the US is free and shipping to Canada is $5/box + any duties and customs fees.

Each box includes a pamphlet that includes brief descriptions of the products, tips on how to use them and the retail price, as well as each brand’s web address and Instagram handle. Short and sweet.

Cargo Cosmetics Swimmables Eye Shadow Stick in Morro Bay (Full size)

“This water-resistant creamy eye shadow is exactly what we need as the weather warms up! The high-coverage pigment will last all day, through sweat, swim and tears so you don’t have to worry about smudging, smearing or re-applying. ($20)”

I received this same one last year in another box and it’s lovely. I like it for a soft smokey eye and the mess-free applicator. One of three shades in the box.

NCLA Beauty Nail Polish in We’re Off to Never Never Land (Full size)

“What could be more Spring than a pretty pastel? This vegan and cruelty-free nail polish is free of harmful ingredients, making it safe and healthy for your nails to look beautiful all month long. ($16)”

This polish goes on like a dream — even, streak-free, one coat and done. I don’t think it shows here but the colour has a lot of grey to it. I think it would be just as gorgeous with a fuzzy white sweater in winter as it would with a bright white tee in the spring.

Beautaniq Beauty Nourishing Mascara (Full size)

“Thicken, lengthen, and strengthen your lashes with this volumizing formula, rich in lash-conditioning ingredients. The oversized brush grips and coats each hair ensuring each lash is separate, defined and evenly coated. ($19.90)”

I didn’t think this mascara was anything special but my teen asked if I was wearing false lashes the first time I used it so maybe I just can’t see it? It does separate lashes nicely but for volume and length I prefer my go-to They’re Real! by Benefit.

Freeman Beauty French Pink Clay Peel-Off Mask (Full size)

“Refresh and revitalize your complexion with this pore-clearing mask, ideal for most skin types and free of harsh chemicals. French pink clay draws out and removes impurities while nourishing your skin for a smooth and glowing finish. ($4.99)”

Peel-off masks are one of my favourite skin treats and this one is wonderful. Makes my skin feel clean, clear and bright and gentle enough to use several times a week. And the price is fantastic! Word to the scent-sensitive: it does have a strong floral scent.

The Good Patch in Be Calm

“Containing 15 mg of hemp and menthol, this dermatologically tested patch will ensure you’re calm throughout the day, relieving feelings of stress and anxiety. It’s natural, simple, and totally discreet! ($12)”

I’ve known people who’ve used a nicotine patch but I’d never heard of one for relieving stress and anxiety. Have you? Have you tried one? What if you’re already on anxiety medication? I have questions.

Skin Research Laboratories Beauty on the Go Mini Kit

“Enhance your beauty wherever you go, with this tiny yet mighty trio of products, including mini-sized versions of bestsellers for lashes, brows and skin. ($74)”

The kit includes enhancing serums for lashes and brows and a complexion-perfection polish. Here’s more from the Glossybox website:

“neuLASH®’s nutrient-rich formula, which delivers benefits beyond conditioning, is fortified with Active Eyelash Technology to dramatically improve the weak appearance of eyelashes in just 30 days.

neuBROW is exclusively formulated with Dual-Weight Protein Complex to promote suppleness and shine. Say goodbye to sparse-looking brows and hello to beautiful, fuller-looking brows.

And buff your way to a refined and radiant complexion with neuREFLECTION™, a revolutionary and luxuriously whipped facial polish that enhances skin’s health and beauty long after you rinse.”

I’ve only just started using the serums so the jury’s still out but I’ve seen lots of great reviews online. The polish smells like dill and looks like spackle 😂 but ahhhh, it’s wonderful! Magnesium oxide and sugar exfoliates in the most gentle way, the shea butter moisturizes and kaolin helps the skin feel clean and refreshed. And soft! And so smooth! Helps to enhance skin’s healthy appearance, moisturize and nourish skin, deep cleanse and detoxify, and fight “maskne.”

And this last item isn’t in the product guide so I’ve included a description from the brand:

Kawaii Girl Cosmetics The New York Powder in Murray Hill

“The New York Powders is a capsule collection of small-batch, handcrafted multifunctional shimmer powders made with vegan-friendly, ethically sourced ingredients. Murray Hill is a sophisticated dusty rose shimmer powder with golden notes that can seamlessly transition from day to night as a highlight and eye shadow. These shades are highly pigmented and long lasting with intense shimmer that’s visible under low, natural, and bright light. The rich powders are creamy, blendable and more importantly, offer bold color payoff on all skin tones. ($15)”

I’ve recently rediscovered the uplifting power of a sparkle and this powder has a beautiful shimmer for sure but the loose formula doesn’t do it for me. Just too messy, like you can see on the box here. The packaging included the colour-coordinating sequins.

Ahhhh some really wonderful products in this month’s GLOSSYBOX! I’m loving the nail polish, the face mask and the face polish and I’m curious to see what the serums will do for my lashes and brows. I would have preferred a shadow stick in a spring pastel, maybe a pink, lilac or green and you know I’m not wild about the powdered shimmer but these are minor quibbles. I’m quite pleased overall. A refreshing box!

April’s GLOSSYBOX is valued at $161.89.
