GLOSSYBOX Review May 2022

Hello! I’ve been busy packing and lining up things for next week’s move and I think we’re getting there! 🙌 The house looks far, far different than it did when we were showing but I’m trying to keep a clear path to the dining room table so I can sit down and share a few more boxes before we go. Like my latest GLOSSYBOX. It’s a subscription from the US that delivers five deluxe or full-size beauty products every month for $21 USD and each box is valued at $75 or more. May’s “Perfectly Imperfect” box included a couple of surprises. (And not beauty products with dents or dings, like I first thought when I saw the theme.) Here’s a look.

“Forget ‘perfect’, forget ‘beauty ideals’. We want you to truly feel wonderful in your own skin and embrace every little bit of yourselves — from the parts you adore to the imperfections you may not always feel so thrilled about — and this month’s curation is here to help!”

GLOSSYBOX offers four subscription options (all prices in USD):

  • monthly ($21/month, billed monthly)
  • 3 months ($58.50, paid upfront)
  • 6 months ($111, paid upfront)
  • 12 months ($210, paid upfront)

Shipping in the US is free and shipping to Canada is $5/box + any duties and customs fees.

Surprise #1: The mirror inside the lid! 😍😍 Such a cute addition! (I took this picture before I peeled off the protective coating.) You can also see May’s product guide. Mine’s missing from time to time so I’m glad to see it here. I’ve included the product descriptions in italics below.

Surprise #2: Stickers! 😍😍 One sheet of uplifting illustrations and sayings in multiple languages for subscribers in various markets. I’m a sucker for stickers. Can’t wait to use these on some cards from our new address! They’re a little flimsy as stickers go but now I’m just being picky.

Elemis Pro-Collagen Energising Marine Cleanser (deluxe mini) · “Part of the cult favourite pro-collagen range, this luxurious gel cleanser effectively removes daily grime, makeup and impurities whilst leaving skin with a youthful glow. There’s succinic acid, lactic acid, and ferulic acid inside to help gently exfoliate and moisturize your complexion. $18”

This cleanser sounds fabulous and it does feel luxurious but I can’t get past the fishy scent, like so many collagen-boosting products I’ve tried. It’s a miss for me.

Maria Nila Invisidry Shampoo (full size) · “Meet your new hero dry shampoo! This ultra-lightweight formula is practically invisible in your hair, yet easily absorbs oils, leaving you with that “just washed” feeling. As an added bonus, the Color Guard Complex also helps to protect your hair from UV radiation, preserving your color for longer! $22”

There have been a few dry shampoos I’ve had to gift since I’ve gone brunette — the ones that leave a white cast only make me look grey — but this one has none of that, and it’s vegan and cruelty free. It absorbs oil really well and leaves my hair feeling soft and smelling fruity. Sometimes I use dry shampoo just to give my hair a little volume but I don’t notice any difference with this one.

The Beauty Crop BFF Brow Mascara — Grow & Groom Brow Gel (full size) · “Whether you’re going full glam, or a no-makeup look, we can all feel a little more confident with well-groomed brows. This small but mighty gel is completely clear, making it suitable for all hair colours and the super strong hold lets you style your brows however you want — and you’ll know they’re going to stay put! $8.99”

Super easy to use, the wand has a spoolie that lets you comb the gel through your brows for even application. Brows stay put without feeling hard or sticky.

Aceology Rose Petal Mask (deluxe mini) · “From the face mask specialists at Aceology, this hydrating, multi-use Rose Petal Mask is perfect for your next self-care day. The rosewater-rich formula helps to plump skin, while soothing redness or irritation. Plus this silky, lightweight gel also works wonderfully as a moisturizing sleeping mask. $19”

Rosewater anything used to be a hard pass for the scent but over the past couple of years I’ve come to like it. This mask’s gel formula feels great and makes my skin look hydrated and glowy.

Daily Concepts Daily Body Scrubber (full size) · “Show your self some extra TLC every time you shower! this body scrubber is made from soft, natural organic cotton, with a soy-based center to create a rich lather when partnered with your favourite body wash. The gentle exfoliation is a great way to wake up and boost your circulation. $10”

I’ve received these in boxes a few times and they’re great. They’re a bit scratchy but not uncomfortably so, gentle enough to use every time you shower without irritating your skin. And the lather! 😍😍 Makes a little body wash go a long way. Organic, vegan, biodegradable and cruelty free. Each one is good for about three months. (It’s time to replace it when the words on the label wear off.)

May’s GLOSSYBOX is valued at $77.99. Even without the cleanser I didn’t like, that’s still three times the $21 price. If you like trying a variety of skincare, cosmetics and haircare products, it’s a fun one to get.
