Goodfood Review February 2018

Goodfood is a weekly grocery delivery service. They offer a once-a-week subscription service where they deliver all the fresh ingredients you need to make delicious meals at home, in exactly the right proportions. They’ve designed the experience to teach you fun new recipes, discover new ingredients (some can be hard to find!), save prep time and also reduce unnecessary waste. By letting them shop for you, they can bring you fresher and higher-quality food than what’s sitting on supermarket shelves, and for better prices!

Goodfood has been shipping since 2014 but they only recently expanded their shipping locations to include BC. Imagine how excited I was when I discovered that they were now shipping to my location. I am slightly obsessed with meal delivery services. They have completely changed my dinner game, not to mention the fact that they save me time and money.

Here’s a closer look at the 3 vegetarian recipes we received this week….

Veggie Burger with Caramelized Onions, Pickles & Tomatoes with Oven Roasted Fries

We can never get enough of well crafted, delicious burgers in the Goodfood test kitchen! This vegetarian version is a guaranteed delight, even amongst the most carnivorous eaters. Tasty veggie patties are topped with caramelized onions, juicy tomatoes and briny pickle slices. All placed between our toasted gourmet burger buns, and served with oven roasted fired, this is a epicurean sandwich that is guaranteed to delight!

Maple Roasted Tofu & Butternut Squash with Multicoloured Quinoa

This vegetarian recipe proves once again that tofu can be deliciously appealing when combined with the right ingredients. In this stellar creation that lacks no panache, the magic comes from slices of tofu marinated in maple, soy and ginger and then roasted until crisp and golden. To accompany the star protein we are adding roasted butternut squash and serving it all over a bed of multicoloured quinoa sauteed with aromatic shallots. A dish so satisfying you can help but fall in love with tofu!

Beet & Goat Cheese Tart with Romaine & Apple Salad

The term “tart” covers a lot of culinary ground and can mean many things to many different folks. Here, we’re employing the term for one of our favourite uses of the word, an open-faced pastry containing a filling baked to golden perfection. We’re starting off with a flaky, buttery pie crust and layering on slices of red beets, goat cheese, fresh thyme and crunchy walnuts. With a delicate side salad of romaine lettuce, sliced apples and remaining beets this is a gourmet feast easy on the eyes and highly rewarding for any hungry belly!

Goodfood Review February 2018 – Final Thoughts

So far I haven’t met a meal delivery service I didn’t like. But, with that being said some are definitely better than others. I find that each one has it’s pros and cons. Seeing as this is our first time receiving Goodfood, I can’t make any final decisions. I like to test out a service at least 3 times before forming an opinion. But, right off the bat there are a few things I like about Goodfood:

  • They have a professional website that is easy to navigate
  • They have 3 different box options including a veggie option, bonus points for that
  • They give back – for every Goodfood box purchased, they contribute to a nutritious meal for a child in need at school, this is HUGE
  • They post the recipes directly on their website so you can see exactly what ingredients you will be receiving, the nutritional information, and the directions (incase you misplace the recipe card)
  • The recipes are packaged nicely in a breathable plastic bag with a handle
  • Delivery is included in the cost

We are excited to test out our first few recipes and will post at least a couple of them later this week. Overall we have a great first impression of Goodfood and hope to review it on a regular basis going forward.

XOXO
