Home Made Luxe Review April 2017

Home Made Luxe is a Pinterest in a Box! Each crafty box contains all the materials you need to make a gorgeous home decor project delivered to your door!   You can purchase a one time project kit OR subscribe to receive a new crafty project every month. They kindly sent us this box for review.

I think we found it.  The absolute perfect subscription box for me!  I am a huge crafter, but I’ll be honest with you, I get overwhelmed when I go to the craft store with all the options and usually end up leaving with nothing.  Pathetic.  Any other creatives like that out there?  I feel like we are all like that.  Our creativity is limitless, but sometimes we just need to be told what direction to go in.  Home Made Luxe does exactly that.

Creativity, a project, and all the supplies you need to make it happen wrapped up in one box and sent to you monthly.  This is perfect.  I can already feel my creativity spiking.

Ah!  This box is bursting with spring and I couldn’t be happier about it!  Also, that door hanger is amazing!  I’m planning on turning my spare bedroom into an office in May and this will definitely be on the door, 100% of the time.

My eyes are like a kid in the candy shop!  Just look at all this!  It is so amazing to receive the whole project in one go.  I really am feeling inspired right now and can’t wait to put this thing together.  Along side all your supplies an instructional book has also been provided.  You can follow along to make sure you don’t miss a step.

K, but seriously, craftaholic is at work now, cause I’m going to assemble this right here right now for you!  Get your glue guns people, it’s craft time.

Step one, cut out one side of your & sign.  Make sure you cut the right side, as there is a right side and wrong side to this project.  I can’t even tell you how many times I have spent hours of work on a project, only to realize I was working on the wrong side the whole time!  Ugh… feel my pain fellow crafters.  Also.  Can I just comment how amazing it is that they have provided a box cutter?!  I was literally looking for one of these in my house two nights ago and swore I owned one.  Apparently I didn’t, but now I do and it’s pink!!

Step two is to glue this baby together.  It has come in two pieces so that it would fit in the box.  I used a glue gun for this.  I also placed a bit of paper over the glue to adhere it a bit better.  I just tore this paper from the wrapping inside the Home Made Luxe box.  Little did they know they also supplied this handy little paper, so no need to go hunt some down!

Now we get to paint!  They have provided a sponge brush.  Personally I’m not a huge fan of these, as they can usually leave streaks.  It’s a great tool, but if you have a better brush already in your possession, maybe consider using that.  For the sake of this review however, I will be using the sponge brush!

Us creative types never have time to pour paint into a bowl!  Just pour it right on your project and away you go!  This way you don’t end up wasting paint as well.  It’s a great way to only use exactly what you need!  Also, look at the fun design I made, because every step gets to be its own project!

Acrylic paint is water based, which is great for washing it off clothing, but not always great when it comes to low quality paper.  You can see I have quite a bit of bubbling from the wet paint.  I’m pleased to tell you that once the paint dries this bubbling does go away.

A second coat of pain is needed, so away I go with designing paint lines again.  This is too much fun…

Once your paint drys the next step is to fill the inside of your “&” with the styrofoam provided.  Use your box cutter to cut it to size.  I’m always worried I wont have enough supplies.  I managed to get all the pieces in on the first try with guessing sizing.  If you guess wrong, don’t worry too much, because styrofoam can be pretty forgiving.  Once you are sure you’ve got it all placed out you can hot glue gun them all down.  A glue gun is the only thing that is not provided in this box; however, glue sticks have been provided. The glue sticks provided didn’t fit the glue gun I own, which I could see being common, as there are a lot of types of glue guns out there.

Now for the fun part!! The flowers!  I placed all the flowers before glueing them, as I wasn’t sure how well they would all fit on the project.  Luckily Home Made Luxe has thought of everything and they have provided the exact correct amount!  I can’t even tell you how many times I have been mid project only to realize I was short on something and had to trudge my way back to the craft store to purchase a $2 item to finish the project.  When I craft I get pretty determined to finish, so nothing stops me from going out to get that item to finish.  I love that Home Made Luxe has provided exactly what I need so that I can avoid the walk of shame in my sweats and Hunter boots back to the craft store to purchase more supplies.

I hot glue gunned the flowers down and boy do they look great!

K, so the finished project actually blew my mind!  Anyone who knows me well knows I don’t really go for the flowery, girly look.  When I first opened this box I wasn’t 100% sure I would 100% love the outcome, but let me tell you…. I’m 100% in love with this! I think I love it so much because I made it… I think that’s why moms love their kids so much… cause let’s be honest, you made them.  Well, I made this and I love it!  Can’t wait to put it in my home office.

Home Made Luxe April 2017 – Final Thoughts

Well, obviously I’m in love here.  As a life long crafter this box is right up my alley!  I love that I don’t have to think about what I’m making, I can just pull out the box and away I go!  I’ve said this before with other boxes, but if you feel like 12 months is too much of a commitment, consider going for it anyway and stashing the boxes that you don’t feel like you can tackle right now.  I know with me I get my creative moods in bursts and want to do 10 projects all at once!  I would love having a stock pile of Home Made Luxe to call upon when the need arises.  I love that every item you need is provided, outside of a glue gun of course.  This way you don’t have to worry about making a trip out.  Blizzarding outside?  No worries, you’ve already got all you need for a crafty night in!  I loved the simplicity of the craft, yet it took up enough time that I feel like I really got my worth out of it.  The finished product is also truly satisfying, which is all any crafter can really ask for.  I think this box is now my favourite and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next!
