Lip Monthly Review July 2020

Psst! I’ve got a dirty little secret: I’ve been thinking about going on an all-almond diet. But that’s just nuts. (Ba-dum-bum-chuh.) Okay I meant a different dirty little secret, a chic little lipstick from July’s Lip Monthly. The US subscription service delivers a variety of full-size lip products + one bonus cosmetic in a reusable pouch every month. Subscriptions start at $12.95 USD/month and each pouch is valued at $50+. I wonder what other little secrets are inside? *

*They kindly sent us this pouch for review

Lip Monthly offers four subscriptions (all prices in USD and all products full-sized):

  • Monthly subscription: $12.95 for 4 products/month
  • Lip Monthly Plus: $19.95 for 7 products/month
  • 3-Month subscription: $38.85 for 4 products/month
  • Annual subscription: $155.40 for 4 products/month

Shipping is free in the US; $3.99 to Canada and the UK; and $4.99 to Australia.

Subscribers get a mixed bag of products every month so mine may be different than other July ones you’ve seen. It also explains why the product card is a welcome message rather than a description of the contents. I’ve looked up each item and included descriptions and prices from the brands.

Appeal Ultra Creme Liquid Lipstick (Mood)

“These sexy and soft lipsticks coat your lips in highly-pigmented color with an opaque, creamy, satin finish. Cruelty-free. ($21)”

Appeal named this one Mood, but I’m calling it Pumpkin Spice. It’s less peach and more orange, less summer and more fall. Which is fine if maybe a month ahead of schedule. I think I like it more as a kind of stain when you blot it literally with a tissue.

Sorme Treatment Cosmetics Perfect Performance Lip Colour (Wish)

“High pigment, classic and fashion colors keep lips supple, soft and hydrated with antioxidant vitamin E. Smooth shades in assorted finishes offer superior performance and wear. ($12)”

If you’ve been following for a while, you’ll know brown makes me frown. And that’s the case here. Way too dark for my skin tone. And somehow it rolled up in transit and bumped against the inside of the cap so it didn’t have a perfectly clean edge. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen that happen ‘tho so not a big deal.

So Susan Cosmetics Haute Light Highlighting Pencil

“Blend onto brow bones, cheek bones & dark circles to instantly give your skin clarity and radiance. Glide down the centre of your nose and onto your cupid’s bow for a multidimensional, sculpted look. Use also as a shadow base for colours that last. No Parabens. No Phthalates. With Eyeseryl® Peptide & White Truffle extract. Hypoallergenic. Non-comedogenic. Safe for Contact Lens Wearers. ($19.95)”

This one I like — a multi-use highlighter that’s mess-free and easy to apply.

Dirty Little Secret (Naked)

“Creamy, smooth finish. Wear sheer with one swipe or a little more for full coverage. Great for building up layers. Moisturizing and hydrating. Smells like candy! ($10)”

And finally my dirty little secret. Love the colour and the formula. I’ll wear it year-round. Doesn’t smell like candy to me but that’s a good thing.

July’s Lip Monthly is valued at $62.95. I had one dud but the other three products I really like and a zippered pouch is always handy. Lip Monthly says they’ve got a new bag design in the works so I’m interested to see what they’ll come up with.

Have you tried Lip Monthly?
