Here’s a closer look at our first Lovevery Box – The Looker. This box is for weeks 0-12. Our next box will ship in 2 months and it will be for months 3-4.

THE LOOKER

We named this kit “The Looker” because in these first few months, your newborn is gradually becoming aware of the world around him. Right now, he uses his eyes as his primary way of gathering information. He is building up the connections between his brain and his eyes and is sensitive to light and sound.

THE MOBILE

This two-sided mobile provides months of visual exploration and focus at diaper time. If it works in your home, you can hang the mobile where you change your baby’s diaper. Hang the mobile with the black and white side facing down, about 8 to 12 inches away from his eyes. You may want to switch the mobile so the color side faces down once baby is about 5 months old (when he can see color).

I hadn’t purchased a mobile yet so I was happy to see this in the box. I will hang it above our change table and switch it to the coloured side when baby gets a bit older. I love that it will give baby something to look at during all those diaper changes.

STANDING CARD HOLDER

Make tummy time more fun wherever you are—folds for easy storage. Tummy time builds muscles and coordination needed for rolling over, crawling, walking, reaching, and playing. Slowly roll your baby onto her tummy with arms tucked under her shoulders. Prop the standing card holder up so it is in view.

I made sure to leave some extra space on the floor of the nursery for play time and tummy time. This card holder will be perfect. I can lay baby on his side or on his tummy when he gets a bit stronger. I can switch out the cards as needed.

SIMPLE BLACK & WHITE CARD SET

Babies are riveted by high contrast images in the early months. Research shows time spent looking at high contract images is important for a baby’s cognitive development. When infants looks at images that stimulate them visually, the connections between their eyes and brain strengthen. Hold each card 8 to 12 inches from your baby’s face until she looks away. Slowly move the card back and forth to help her practice following a moving object.

These cards can be used a number of ways – in the standing card holder, the travel card holder or I can simply hold them in my hand while baby and I sit together. I will start with one or two and rotate as needed.

TRAVEL CARD HOLDER

Give your baby something to look at while you’re in the car or on the go. The travel card holder gives your baby a chance to explore visually while you’re on the go, and helps him relax while you’re driving. Hang the strap of the travel card holder over the headrest of the seat he’s facing so the card holder faces him. Flip the cards over after a few weeks to see if your baby enjoys looking at new or more complex images.

This is the perfect little travel companion. It will give baby something to look at while we are in the car and on the go.

COMPLEX BLACK & WHITE CARD SET

As your baby’s vision develops, they’ll become interested in more complex patterns.

On the back of the simple card set we have a more complex set of designs. I will start with the simple cards and switch to the complex cards as baby gets older.

BLACK & WHITE MITTENS

Promotes hand discovery, hand control, and body awareness. Research shows that if you put black and white mittens on your baby’s hands, he may begin to notice his hands earlier.

Another great toy for play time. I can put these adorable little gloves on baby while we sit together, lay on the floor, or maybe even while baby is in the car.

WOODEN BOOK

Baby’s first book made with sustainably forested wood. Reading to your baby promotes ‘shared focus’ – joint experiences between you and your child that form the basis of strong relationships. The wooden book is filled with adorable high contrast images which are interesting for her to look at.

I plan on reading to baby and sharing books with baby as soon as he is able to sit comfortably in my lap. Even though this adorable little book doesn’t have words, it will be a great way for baby and I to bond. I will show baby the images and talk about them. It will be a nice little bedtime routine.

SILICONE RATTLE WITH REMOVABLE BALL

Perfect for grasping—and learning how to track moving objects and sounds. Watching and hearing a moving object helps fine-tune visual tracking. Hold the rattle about 12 inches in front of your baby. Slowly move the rattle from side to side. when your baby’s not looking at the rattle, shake it to encourage him to turn his head toward the sound.

This is a great way to incorporate movement and sound in to play time. It is officially baby’s first toy and it is so stinkin’ cute!

PLAY GUIDE WEEKS 0‑12

Ideas for how to play during weeks 0‑12, backed by all the research you don’t have time to read.

This little guide is so handy and extremely useful. I will refer to it often for the first few months baby is here as it has a ton of great information on play, development and how to best use all the items in the box.

LULLABY LYRICS

Recycled paper with soy ink. Your baby will love hearing the sound of your familiar voice singing to her. Research suggests many benefits to singing songs. Lullabies can help your baby’s language development, encourage her to listen and anticipate what you will sing next, and even reduce stress levels and pain.

I’m not much of a singer, but that may change once baby gets here. And…..it’s such a great idea to have the lyrics to all of my favorite lullabies in one place.

MONTH STICKERS

Every stage is important for your baby, and the first year goes by faster than you might think. Month by month, these stickers will help you record and share your baby’s first year.

This is a really cute way to document baby’s first couple months.

A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR YOU

A mug for you to enjoy a warm drink in a quiet moment.

This was a really nice surprise. I had no clue that my Lovevery box would include a little gift for Mama. This mug will definitely come in handy for all the early mornings to come.

Lovevery Review The Looker – Final Thoughts

What a lovely subscription! I am absolutely thrilled with my first Lovevery box. It’s everything I was hoping it would be…..and more. It”s extremely organized, full of useful information and packed full of beautiful toys. I didn’t even bother purchasing any other toys for baby’s first few months as I have everything I need in my Lovevery box. I might add a few more little things as we go but I am all about simplicity and only having what we absolutely need. The items and toys in my Lovevery box are high-quality, gorgeous and proven to helps baby’s development…….what more do I (or baby) need?
