Mapleblume Review December 2018

What did Daisy Duck say when she bought lipstick? “Put it on my bill.” (ba-dum-bum-chuh) Oh you’re lucky I don’t review beauty boxes more often, ha ha. Today for something different I’m talking about Mapleblume. It’s a bi-monthly subscription box of luxury cosmetics and skincare. Each box contains at least five full-size or deluxe sample-size products. Shipping to Canada (it’s Canada-based) and the US is free which I like, because you know what a buzz kill shipping can be. Sometimes it’ll put me off the box altogether. (I think more subscription box services would be smart to build it into the price.)

There are two purchase options: subscribe for a new box every other month for $120 per box or purchase a single box to try (or to gift) for $130 per box. Subscribers are automatically charged before each box is sent out. Subscriptions can be cancelled any time, you just need to let Mapleblume know by the 15th of the month before the next shipment.

So what’s in the box? (I must mention that the box has a magnetic closure that feels luxurious indeed.)

I feel like this is going to be something good.

Chi Roller Anti Aging Jade Therapy and Regenerating Serum ($39.45)

A beautiful combination to refine and enhance skin elasticity. Jade, a semiprecious stone, has properties that allow it to remain cold on contact. This cooling effect helps to close the pores, tighten the skin and increase lymphatic drainage.

I’ve been wanting to try a jade roller for ages now so I was DELIGHTED to see it in the box. Do you use one? Even ‘tho it’s cool to the touch I’ve heard it works even better if you keep it in the fridge, so that’s what I’m going to try. I’m a little more leery of the serum because my face tends to break out so easily so I’ll probably give that away.

OY-L Face Cream ($72.32)

A restorative, healing and moisturizing blend, OY-L Face Cream naturally restores skin health. Empowered by squalene, the OY-L face cream rapidly absorbs into your skin to deliver age-defying antioxidants, helping to promote skin renewal. Apply to face and under eyes morning and night after washing and toning.

I’m not that keen on facial creams (I’ll try any kind of toner but I have it in my head that cream is going to make me break out) but this one does smell lovely and absorbs nicely. I’m trying it under my eyes for now but may end up gifting it to my mom. (She’ll try just about anything!)

Ooh looks like we might have some nail polish! I wear nail polish every day and love to change up the colours so this is right up my alley.

Sundays No. 2 Polish ($23.70) and Top Coat ($23.70)

Free from 10 of the most common toxins found in conventional nail polish, the No. 2 Polish from Manhattan’s Sundays is a gorgeous soft peaches and luscious cream for a classic barely-there shade of pink with orange undertones, exquisite and delicate like silk chiffon. And finish off your classic mani pedi with the glistening Sundays 10-free Top Coat to keep your nails fresh and glistening.

I’ve been wearing a lot of dark colours lately so the No. 2 is such a refreshing change. First, the colour is PERFECTION. It goes on smooth and non-streaky like a gel coat and stays like a good polish should. So good that I’ve probably spent far too much time this week looking at my nails, ha ha. I’ve had mine on for five days now and it’s looking better than any nail polish I’ve used, including two at that price point. The polish and top coat are my favourite items in the box — even more than the jade roller, and that’s saying something.

NUORI Vital Hand Cream ($49) and New York Lip Treat ($39)

This luxuriously scented Vital Hand Cream from Nuori is the ideal rejuvenating treatment for hands. Formulated with botanical squalene, shea butter, grape seed and almond oils, the cream effectively restores the skin’s moisture levels and smoothes out fine lines. A complex of vitamin E and white tea extract protects the skin against free radicals. It’s the perfect on-the-go hand cream especially in the cooler winter months. And the delicious, berry-tinted blend of natural hydrating wonders in NUORI’s New York Lip Treat gives your lips a vibrant and fresh look inspired by the edgy, yet sophisticated New York City. Sweet almond and apricot oils work together with avocado, shea, and cocoa butter to nourish and soften dry, dehydrated lips. Berry and beeswax seal in moisture and keep lips protected.

I find you either like hand cream or you hate it. And usually I’m team #hateit, only because any I’ve tried have felt greasy or sticky and I’ve wanted to wash them off maybe a minute after putting them on. But the NUORI Vital Hand Cream is lovely and light. I’ve been wearing it this week and actually leaving it on and my hands feel silky soft. I also really like the lip treat. It smells great and it feels soothing going on.

This was me first trying it on. Now I don’t have the redness in my knuckles that I did here.

Mapleblume Review December 2018 – Final Thoughts

Even if I don’t end up using the serum or the face cream, I’m really impressed with the Mapleblume box. The quality of the products and the packaging is exactly what I’d expect in a luxurious beauty box, but without the crazy expensive price. I’d gift a box to my mother or mother-in-law to try or even go in with a friend or two to purchase one for a new grad entering the workforce or a new mom who may want a little pampering.
