Norlii Box Review February 2022

So many of us are struggling to find balance in our everyday lives. Lately I’ve really been grappling with finding that happy medium in my media consumption, specifically related to the occupation here in Ottawa. The Swedes have a word for that happy medium: lagom or “not too much and not too little.” It’s a central part of the Swedish national mentality, says Linda Hasselbalch, founder of Scandinavian home and lifestyle box, Norlii Box. It’s also the theme of February’s edition. Every other month the subscription delivers a thoughtfully curated selection of Scandinavian home decor and accessories designed to help you create a hygge home trademarked by simple clean lines, muted colours and soft natural textures.*

All of the items in February’s Norlii Box are from Normann Copenhagen, a popular Scandinavian design brand. Its flagship store is located in Copenhagen.

Rocking Glass – Set of 4

“The Rocking Glass is a classic from Normann Copenhagen and has been in their assortment for many years. The sturdy and fun glass is a great conversation piece and can be used for nearly everything. It has a specially designed curved bottom, which allows the glass to tilt back and forth without the content spilling: a perfect balance. The rounded bottom also makes it comfortable to hold in the hand as you can both grip around the base or cradle it like a sphere — a sensuous experience to keep you mindful. The glass is robust enough to hold both cool and hot drinks. Use it for cocktails or as a decorative accessory. Or, do like they do at the Museum of Modern Art cafe in New York: use it for a tasty dessert. That will look beautiful. 4 for $25”

I have a small and beautiful collection of mugs from previous Norlii Boxes and ones I’ve purchased from their shop and these glasses are just as treasured. They’re a great size for just about any drink (‘tho I’ve yet to try them with hot bevvies) and an equally elegant vessel for dessert. Seeing these beside my succulents also makes me think they’d make adorable mini terrariums too. They feel great in the hand and the subtle rocking is fun and strangely soothing. Little works of art!

Ring Box

“Ring Box is a series of small, elegant boxes to store personal belongings such as jewelry, cosmetics, stationery items or little treats. The ring box is made of glossy powder-coated steel, available in three various sizes in earthy tones of sand, grey and taupe. The golden ring on the lid serves a functional purpose while also being a decorative detail. I adore the carefulness of the attachment of the ring to the top. It is hidden behind a brass cover and makes the top look equally beautiful when lying next to the container. You will receive a medium-sized ring box. $40”

So elegant, so versatile! This box is called sand but looks pink to me, depending on the light. I love it in large and small too. It’ll look beautiful alongside a variety of materials and textures and really you could use it in every room of your home.

Circa Mobile

“The ingenuity of a mobile is an endless delight, a simple pleasure of watching the life of the decorative structure poised to turn freely in the air. Circa Mobile is designed with a geometrical balance: delicate rings and geometric shapes are suspended in perfect harmony while the parts softly move with the flow of air. The graceful rings weighing out the sturdy brass ball is a unique and constant reminder to balance out your own life. While Circa mobile, you can create an enchanting ambiance in the decor. Maybe in your home office or living room. Stainless steel with brass coating. $85”

I’ve never thought of making a mobile part of my decor and now I see the charm. I can feel my heart rate lower watching it turn and the brass catches the light beautifully. It’s delicate and subtle but a conversation piece too.

Norlii‘s interpretation of balance made for a stunning and surprising February Norlii Box with items as useful as they are beautiful and unlike any I’ve seen elsewhere. Month after month (or I guess month after every other month) it’s one of my favourites.

February’s box is available at Norlii Box and ships within a few days of purchase.
