Oatbox is a monthly breakfast subscription box from Montreal that comes with two large bags of handcrafted granolas that are 100% natural and preservative-free, plus two recipes. Gluten-free boxes are available and subscriptions can be delayed or cancelled free of charge. (They kindly sent us this box for review.)

There are three subscription options to choose from (all prices in CAD):
The Starter Kit (that’s my box) — 2 granola mixes each month for $20
The On The Go Kit — 1 granola mix + 6 oatmeal portions + 3 breakfast bars each month for $30
The Wolfpack Kit (great for families!) — 2 granola mixes + 6 oatmeal portions + 6 breakfast bars each month for $47
Shipping in North America is free.

Two different flavours are included each month. June’s are Dark Chocolate & Raspberry and Goji berry & millet. Each 330-gram bag contains about eight one-third cup servings (180 and 160 calories respectively). Which is a pretty tiny portion, I have to say — more like what you’d sprinkle on some yogurt or fruit. But two portions with milk would tide me over for the morning.

Oatbox also includes two beautifully photographed recipe cards. The recipes use or complement the month’s granolas. For June it’s Raspberry Date Squares and No-Sugar Added Millet and Goji Berry Breakfast Cookies — both of which I’d love to try!

The Dark Chocolate & Raspberry is a delicious combination, with those little freeze-dried raspberries packing a lot of flavour.

Goji berries aren’t my favourite on their own, but they add a welcome chewiness to the Goji berry and millet blend. The millet has a nice crunch and a hint of sweetness. Swap the goji berries for dried cherries or raisins and I think it would be one of my Oatbox faves.

If you’ve never tried a subscription box and you like granola, Oatbox is a great place to start. It’s well-priced for what you get — especially with shipping included — and I really like trying two new flavours each month. The granola is always fresh and not overly sweet with 7 and 8 grams of sugar per serving in this month’s blends. A subscription or even a single box would make a thoughtful gift depending on the occasion — maybe a subscription for a wedding gift and a single box for a housewarming.
What do you think of Oatbox? Is there someone in your life who’d like a subscription?
