SpiceBreeze Review April 2019

April is marked down on our calendar probably because it’s one of the busiest months. At least for parents, having the kid’s Spring Break in the USA, Easter, and for us, we had my husband’s, my dad and my father in law’s birthdays!

Having a spice subscription that delivers 2-4 recipe ideas with their correspondent spice kits takes a lot of the thinking out of the equation when we have to plan out meals for all the parties and occasions.

I love SpiceBreeze because it takes me places I wouldn’t normally plan to go (without actually going), and trying new flavors and foods from different countries. They’re usually a hit with my family!

April’s SpiceBreeze brought really different recipes and I can’t wait to try them all.

Recipe 1: Paella Valenciana

My dad loves paella and being part Spanish we had this often in our home. This is a slightly different take from Valencia and comes with two spice kits, one of them being Spanish saffron. Now, if you’ve watched the latest Netflix movie “Wine Country” worry not, this paella won’t take 24 hours to make!

Recipe 2: Gulai

Gulai is an Indonesian dish that can be made with chicken, or another kind of protein, in a rich coconut sauce with a note of lemongrass, galangal, and makrut lime. The spice kit includes besides these three spices, turmeric, mint, chili, coriander, star anise, lemon crystal and lime peel. Sounds amazing.

Recipe 3: Pad Kee Mao

Who doesn’t love Thai food? This dish translates to “drunken noodles” but no alcohol is involved. The spice kit mixes an array of organic spices like chili, coriander, garlic and lemongrass. The ingredients to make this dish are simple and easy to find.

Recipe 4: Mastic Tears

Mastic Tears… what? Yes, tears of Chios. Mastic is a precious and extremely versatile spice that enhances just about every dish. You can grind it and mix it with sugar or salt depending on your recipe, or infuse oil for cooking or drizzling. Mastic is produced in the Greek island of Chios and a little goes a long way. Can’t wait to try this!
