May Box Contents
Each month I’ll share the list of every item that came in my Splendid Spoon box and will choose a few to give a more in depth review on. This month my week’s worth of meals consisted of:
- Mango Guava Smoothie – NEW “Summer Collection”
- Blueberry Coconut Smoothie
- Mint Chip Smoothie
- Dragon Fruit Berry Smoothie
- Strawberry Goji Smoothie
- Green Goddess Quinoa Bowl – NEW “Summer Collection”
- Brown Rice Taco Bowl
- Cuban Black Bean Bowl
- Aloo Gobi Quinoa Bowl
- Coconut Curry Rice Bowl
- Detox Shot – NEW “Summer Collection”
Here’s a closer look at a few items from this month’s Splendid Spoon box:
Mango Guava Smoothie
“Fruity and refreshing with a hint of lime. FLAX SEEDS: Keeps liver function in tip top shape; CAMU CAMU: A superfood packed with antioxidants; GUAVA: Immunity boosting power house, rich in vitamin C.”
The ingredient list for this smoothie includes: Purified Water, Organic Guava, Banana, Organic Mango, Organic Lime, Organic Flax Seeds, Organic Camu Camu Powder, and Himalayan Salt. Wow, this smoothie is delicious! A bright flavor pop that’s sweet and punchy and full of tropical fruit flavor. This is one of their brand new flavors and it is such a good addition to the line up. So far I think this one has the best smoothie texture of all that I’ve tried. Not that any of the others were bad (I happen to love them all, truly), but this one is just a bit thicker and creamier. I also think this one has a flavor that would be liked by almost anyone. Of course, I mean anyone that likes fruit as there isn’t a hint of vegetable or nut flavor involved so it’s a safe choice for those that might be more picky eaters. Even though this is a sweeter choice, I appreciate that the fruits are paired with flax seeds and camu camu for added nutritional value. I’ve read that camu camu is said to help with increasing energy so that, along with the bright flavor of this smoothie, make it a perfect breakfast or morning pick-me-up snack. I would highly recommend this one and would order it again for sure.
Green Goddess Quinoa Bowl
“Crunchy, green veggie bowl topped with a bright, citrus dressing. SPINACH: Popeye’s fave is loaded with iron and folic acid; BROCCOLI: Full of fiber to keep gut health in check; QUINOA: Powers your day with plant-based protein.”
The ingredient list for this bowl includes: Quinoa (Water, Quinoa), Broccoli, Organic Spinach, Kidney Beans, Asparagus, Green Peas, Water, Sugar Snap Peas, Almonds (Tree Nuts), Tahini (Sesame Seeds), Lemon Juice, Green Beans, Hemp Seeds, Parsley, Apple Cider Vinegar, Basil, Scallions, Salt, and Garlic. This bowl is another one of their brand new “Summer Collection” products so I was most excited to try this one out of the mix. It is really delicious and filling. It has a mild tangy flavor (from the tahini) that pairs perfectly with the wide variety of green vegetables. The tahini sauce doesn’t add a huge amount of sauce, but the dish overall certainly isn’t dry. The almonds add a nice crunch and texture and the beans add an additional more mild texture along with protein and a pretty pop of purple. Really, the entire bowl is so pretty, such a lovely shade of green. It just looks so healthy, in a good way of course. This would be good at any time of year, but for some reason reminds me of summer with all the fresh vegetables so it’s perfect timing to eat this season. I would most definitely order this bowl again.
Detox Shot
“A plant-powered cleansing elixir from Mother Nature’s medicine cabinet. Perfect for when you need a quick refresh.”
The ingredient list for this detox shot includes: Apple Juice, Lemon Juice, Aloe Juice, Kale Juice, Moringa, and Spirulina. Wow, this is so tasty! I honestly was expecting it to taste like grass or something, but it’s really pleasant and left me wanting more. The overarching flavor comes from the perfectly balanced apple and lemon juice. It’s tart, but the sourness is matched with a hint of sweetness so it’s easy to sip or to take down in one gulp. There is a hint of green juice behind the fruity flavors, but I really enjoyed that element actually. Plus knowing that those ingredients pack a nutrient punch is awesome. They help to aid digestion, improve skin condition, balance gut bacteria and flush out toxins. These little shots are ultra convenient to take on the go and make the perfect snack companion or way to start of the day fresh. I would recommend trying and will definitely be ordering this one again.
Splendid Spoon Review May 2020 – Final Thoughts
I love that Splendid Spoon sent all 3 of their new “Summer Collection” items in this month’s box. I of course tried these products right away as I’m a sucker for anything new. They are all super summery, bright, refreshing, healthy and of course delicious. I could eat the Green Goddess Bowl and Mango Smoothie every day! And the Detox shot is exactly what my system needs (plus its delicious and convenient), so perfect. Of course, I’m excited about everything else that was in this month’s box too. I’ve tried a couple of the bowls and smoothies before but was glad to find a few other new-to-me items as well. The Mint Chip smoothie is another of their newer flavors, which also seems like a perfect summer treat. That flavor so reminds me of childhood and mint chip ice-cream so I’m sure it will be a favorite that I’ll want to order again. Overall, Splendid Spoon makes lunchtime so easy for me. I love not having to think about anything and still have a nutritious and filling meal to eat every day. I’ve been eating the smoothies for a snack and they satisfy me so well too. Plus, they couldn’t be any easier either. Every bowl and smoothie I’ve tried with this subscription is so flavorful and I love the simple ingredient lists. As usual I would highly recommend!
