The Story Box Review: Vol. 1 Recovery

The Story Box is a tool designed for women wanting to approach their recovery creatively. By purchasing The Story Box, you receive an opportunity to start the journey of art therapy privately, easily and affordably. They kindly sent us this box for review.

This is our first time reviewing The Story Box so let’s go over the details. First up, a little about the founder:

Lisa is the the woman behind The Sober Hipster and the founder of The Story Box. She wants to encourage you to not be ashamed of your story because it will inspire others. And let me tell you, she has a very inspirational story herself. I’m so glad I took the time to read her story because it gave me a whole new appreciation for the subscription box she has put together. CLICK HERE to read it for yourself.

The Story Box: Vol. 1 Recovery – DETAILS

The Story Box: Vol. I Recovery contains a custom May Designs journal and 15 story cards.  Story cards are prompted art therapy experiences to guide you on a creative journey of discovering and understanding your story.  You will also receive materials and supplies that are specific to the exercises so you are equipped to carry out each story card.  The Story Box is self-paced.  This is your story so you decide when and how often to pick up a story card.  Story cards can be done in any order.

Here’s a closer look at the items we received in Vol. 1 Recovery Box……

Story Cards

This is such a great idea. Really it is. My OCD side is absolutely loving how organized these cards are, how easy they are to follow, the quality design, and the fact that they are small enough to take with you on your travels. We received 15 story cards and they act as a guide. You can do them at your own pace – one a day, one every few days, one a week……you decide.

Quotes

Next up we have a set of quotes. Our first story card tells us that quotes can be powerful to read and powerful when used as writing prompts. Use these quotes to help reflect on your own recovery story.

Journal

Next up we have a journal. This will be used quite a few times during your recovery process. One of the story cards tells us to paste a photo of yourself when you were a little girl or teenager in the journal and write a letter to her on the page opposite the photo.

Mod Podge & Applicator

Here we have some mod podge and an applicator. One of the story cards tells us to cut words out of a magazine that describe who you are or who you are becoming. Paste the words on poster board using the mod podge and take note of any themes among the words, patterns, colors, etc.

CD – You’ll Be Whole

This next item is something Lisa (the founder) received from a friend following a life changing mission to Cairo in 2008. Her friend actually wrote this song for her and she listens to it often. One of the story cards includes an activity to go along with the song.

Markers

Markers are provided as there are a few story card activities that require you to write, doodle and draw.

Tattoo

Here we have a simple little tattoo. You are to apply the tattoo somewhere visible to you. Snap a photo, post it on Instagram with #youmatter and share your story.

Thank You Card

Lastly we have a thank you card, and a gorgeous one at that. You are to write a note of thanks to someone who has supported you during your recovery. I love this. Such a great idea!

The Story Box Review: Vol. 1 Recovery – Final Thoughts

Wow, what a beautiful box. I certainly wasn’t expecting it to be like this. I can tell that a lot of care, thought and passion went in to this box…..a lot!!! The curation is absolutely wonderful. And they certainly created an experience. The story cards are such a great idea and made it really easy to follow the recovery process/experience that they promote. Even though a recovery themed subscription box doesn’t apply to me directly, I can still appreciate it. I wasn’t really sure what to expect with The Story Box, but one thing is for sure, it’s more than I could have imagined. Lisa, the founder, did an absolutely amazing job putting this first box together. I’m thrilled to see a subscription box like this on the market. It’s unique and refreshing. It’s not just a box full of things. It’s a box full of discovery.

XOXO
