Sweet Reads Box Review April 2022
Sweet Reads Box is a monthly subscription box that sends you a newly released novel, something delicious to eat and drink, and a few items cleverly tied to the story to round out your reading experience (think great-smelling candles, marvellous mugs, delightful bath and body products, lovely stationery and other surprises). You can subscribe for three months, six months, or a year or order single boxes to try, including a number of limited edition boxes released throughout the year. A limited number of past boxes and other products are available while supplies last, including the April box I’m sharing today. Here’s a quick look inside.*

“Cooking is Chemistry, Really.” — Joel Robuchon
Each monthly Sweet Reads Box includes a card with an image and quote hinting at the month’s book selection one one side and a guide to the contents on the other. I’ve included the product descriptions in italics below.
April’s book is Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus.
“What do cooking and chemistry have in common? Everything! And for protagonist Elizabeth Zott, the combination results in a new career as the host of a beloved cooking show. Set in the 1960s, Lessons in Chemistry is a truly unique novel that offers a set of characters to fall in love with, including our favourite, Six-Thirty. Elizabeth gives us a window into a world where men are scientists and women are not. Both funny and inspiring, quirky and intelligent, Lessons in Chemistry is a novel you will be talking about long after you finish.”
Sadly my copy’s packed up for our move, but I’m anxious to read it when we’ve settled in. The reviews have been fantastic!

Italian Noodles · Supper at Six · “Elizabeth would have packed this lunch for her and Calvin to take to the lab. 🇨🇦”
Marinara Mix · Gourmet du Village · “We couldn’t leave your pasta dull and boring like ego-centric scientists. 🇨🇦”
Pasta is staple in our house so these should go over well. Love the clever custom branding for the noodles. “May ward off a Fu Silli misogynist men.” 😉
C25H28N607 Instant Coffee · Alpine Start · “We think Elizabeth would have invented instant coffee that tastes this good in her kitchen-come-lab.”
Soda Biscuits · Supper at Six · “Elizabeth would have enjoyed showing her audience the chemical reaction involved to make these hearty biscuits enjoyed best with pasta or soup. 🇨🇦”
My fella is the coffee drinker in our house and thought Alpine Start’s instant was better than most. And the biscuits were delicious! They took next to no time to make and even less time to eat. 😋😋
Dishtowel · Danica · “A touch of nostalgia with a dishtowel fit for a 1960s cooking show. 🇨🇦”
Custom Notepad · I’ll Know It When I See It · “A custom-created notepad specifically designed to coordinate with the novel. Perfect for recipes, grocery lists, to-dos, and equations. 🇨🇦”
Lessons in Chemistry Pencil · Penguin Canada · “The perfect accompaniment for taking notes with reading or creating your next chemical compound. Experimental notations require a very good pencil.”
Lemon Square · Lemon Square Co. · “The most delicious lemon square we’ve tried. As a heritage baked good, it is the perfect way to end any Italian meal. 🇨🇦”
Not a foot wrong with any of these, especially the lemon square, which was gone before I’d even turned a page. 😋😋
Lab Goal Socks · Endur · “Six-thirty is smart enough to run a company, so we gave him one. 🇨🇦”
Experimenting in the kitchen is one my favourite ways to spend my me time so I love boxes and books that have to do with cooking or baking and April’s Sweet Reads Box has it all. Lessons in Chemistry sounds fantastic and I love the mix of products alongside. Visit Sweet Reads Box to learn more about their subscriptions, single boxes, Sweet Reads merch, limited editions and more! (And snap up the April box while you still can. 😉)
