Sweet Reads Box Review February 2023

It’s been a few months since I’ve had a Sweet Reads Box to share and I’ve really missed it! The OG Canadian book box is a monthly subscription that sends you a new novel, something delicious to drink and eat while you read it, and some fun bookish items cleverly tied to the story — think cozy socks, great-smelling candles, pretty stationery, and more. Here’s my latest one. *

*They kindly sent us this box for review.

“I’d rather regret the risks that didn’t work out than the chances I didn’t take at all.”

— Simone Biles

Each Sweet Reads Box includes a product card with a quote related to the story on one side and a guide to the contents on the other. I like to be surprised so I usually set it aside to read after I see what’s inside. What do you do? Do you read the card first?

Each month’s book is a surprise and the genres vary. February’s pick is River Sing Me Home by Eleanor Shearer, published mid-January this year.

“Set in Barbados, British Guiana, and Trinidad, this novel will captivate you with the fantastic story of Rachel and her search for her children, who were sold while she was enslaved. March Grace, Micah, Thomas Augustus, Cherry Jane and Mercy share their stories as their mother goes to remarkable lengths to find them.

A powerful novel of historical fiction, family, and sacrifice that you will be thinking about long after you’ve finished.”

I hadn’t heard of this book before Sweet Reads and I’ve seen several 4-star reviews since so I’m really looking forward to it! And a hardcover too. So luxe. 😍😍

Lemon Ginger Rooibos (Genuine Tea) · “A fresh caffeine-free tea. Soothing on long journeys and while reading. This tea is delicious hot or iced. A perfect tie-in for a novel set in the British West Indies and the Caribbean.” 🇨🇦

Mango Hard Candy (Ginger Delights) · “Mango is a fruit found in and loved by those in Barbados. We chose with candy with ginger since Rachel is given ginger to settle her seasickness while sailing to find her daughter.”

Ginger isn’t my favourite but the tie-in to the novel is perfect. I saved these for a friend who will really enjoy them.

Flowered Socks (Yo Socks) · “Bring the feeling of the Caribbean (and Spring!) home with these cozy flowered socks. Perfect for afternoon reading.”

Under the Sea Seafood Seasoning (The Spice Age) · “The settings of this novel are all by the sea. To connect with cooking in the novel and the seafood of the Caribbean, we included this delicious seating. The perfect spice for anything coming from the sea.” 🇨🇦

Sea Breeze Paper Hand Soap (Hale Living Co.) · “The sights and smells of towns and people are often mentioned in this novel. At that time, soap would have been a luxury, but it doesn’t have to be for you! Enjoy this compact and travel-ready hand soap with the beautiful scent of the ocean.” 🇨🇦

The socks are soft and so pretty, the seasoning delish on fish and the soap smells great! Three lovely treats!

Reading can be such a great escape and February’s Sweet Reads Box is like a vacation in a box. The book sounds excellent and all of the additional items so cleverly curated. If you’d like to experience this one too, it’s available to order as a single box, commitment-free.
