Here’s a peek at the items we received in the January box…..

Family Trust

Family dramas are often predictable and relatable. We found Family Trust was neither of those. A novel set in Silicon Valley focused on the Huang family and the dying patriarch, Stanley Huang, his children, his ex-wife and his new wife. It focuses on wealth, greed, family, love and cultural traditions and expectations.

A perfect read for January as we welcome the Year of The Pig and its good fortune. We hope you enjoy Family Trust, it’s a compelling read with unexpected twists and turns. Who will amass wealth? Who will lose their fortune? Will there be a family trust after Stanley’s death?

Family Trust sounds like a great read for the New Year. I did a little research and found out that it gets 3.5 stars out of 5 on GoodReads. It is classified as contemporary fiction and receives some great reviews. Here’s what one reviewer had to say:

“This book is amazing.

If you come from a family with no money, this will fascinate you. If you come from a family with tons of money, this will fascinate you too. And make you cringe. And laugh. And yell “OMG NO” in response to some of this wild dialog.”

Tea Leaf Co. Golden Sun Kiss Tea

A delicious blend of Organic Citrus Oolong Tea with flavours (and a name) to remind you of Californian Sunshine.

No book box would be complete without a box of tea! Now do you see why I say this is a great box if you are looking for an excuse to have a little “me time” each month. A new book and a big ol’ cup of tea. It’s the perfect combination.

Wing’s Fortune Cookies

What better way to talk about money, wealth, and good fortune than with fortune cookies? Enjoy alongside your tea as a snack while reading.

I really love the attention to detail and all the thought that goes in to this box. These cookies fit the theme of the book, the time of year and the month perfectly.

Fred and Co. Under the Tea Infuser

The cutest tea infuser around, Sea Turtles are inhabitants of the Californian coast. Symbolizing California and the younger generation of the Huang family your Under the Tea infuser works perfectly with Golden Sun Kiss Tea.

Oh my goodness, this is just too cute for words. I just happen to have a little tea station on my coffee bar and this little diffuser will be the perfect addition.

Fred and Co. Filthy Rich Napkins

If you’ve got it, why not flaunt it? Enjoy this package of money napkins – definitely a conversation starter at your next party.

It always amazes me when subscription boxes are able to find such unique items that fit the monthly theme so perfectly. How great are these napkins! I have no clue when/how I will use them, but they are fun nonetheless.

Socksmith Peaceful Panda Socks

The Huang family could use some peace – perhaps we should send them some socks? We chose these socks for their representation of peace and harmony in Chinese culture and represent the home of the elder generation of the Huang family.

I use to think that tea was the perfect complement to a new book, but now I am thinking socks are an even better pairing. They fit the theme perfectly (as do all the other items in the box) and they are going to keep my feet cozy when I curl up in my favourite chair for my next reading session.

Chinese New year Envelope

It is customary to give money in a red envelope on special occasions like the New Year. Why not use it to spread some good fortune.

Family Print

A print showcasing the Chinese characters for Family. Frame this print as a tribute to your family.

Sweet Reads Box Review January 2019 – Final Thoughts

Sweet Reads Box is a wonderful experience from beginning to end. I’m always so curious to see what book they have chosen for us, and I’m just as excited (if not more) to see the items they have chosen to complement the book. Sweet Reads Box comes up with the best themes, and they always manage to find the most unique items to fit the theme. The books they choose each month tend to get me out of my reading comfort zone. Left to my own devices I tend to go for the same kind of books month in and month out. And as much as I would love for Sweet Reads Box to add 2 or 3 book category options to their subscription offering, I also love the fact that they provide me with a book each month that I wouldn’t have picked out on my own.

I wonder what they will come up with next month……

XOXO
