Sweet Reads Box Review October 2021

Happy Saturday! I hope your weekend includes some me time to read and unwind. My mom is visiting from Toronto for a few days so I’m expecting we’ll go for a few long walks (shorter if we drag the kids along), play some board games and do a little shopping. And I know as soon as she sees this post she’ll want to read October’s Sweet Reads Box pick so I set that aside for her to enjoy while she’s here. Whatever you get up to, I hope it’s lovely. But first a look the latest Sweet Reads Box. The Canadian monthly subscription service delivers a new novel, something to eat and drink and a few bookish items tied to the story or the theme of the box. Their slogan is “me time. delivered.” and it’s bang-on.

Each Sweet Reads Box opens with a product card featuring a quote related to the book on one side and a description of the contents on the other. I’ve quoted from it in italics below. You’ll also notice a Canadian flag emoji 🇨🇦 here and there indicating a Canadian product. Sweet Reads Box prides itself on supporting Canadian businesses and has introduced me to many wonderful Canadian-made goods, including a few I’ve subsequently ordered independently of the box. (Crafted Van‘s magnetic bookmarks and Salt Spring Kitchen‘s jams and chutneys immediately come to mind.)

State of Terror by Hillary Clinton and Louise Penny

“We were so excited to be able to offer this title to our subscribers this month. Louise Penny has long been a favourite Canadian author and her collaboration with Hillary Clinton created a truly fantastic novel that will have you on the edge of your seat. Penny’s writing style combined with insider information of how the American government and foreign affairs work combine to create a novel you will be talking about for weeks after you read it. 🇨🇦”

I’ve been reading at a snail’s pace lately but my mom will probably finish this one in a couple of days. It’s right up her alley and I’ve been wanting to see what it’s all about too.

Foundry Coffee (Propeller Coffee Co)

“Named after the building Propeller resides in, this coffee is a blend of two single-origin coffees to make an award-winning cup. Perfect for edge-of-your-seat reading and early morning to late-night work sessions. 🇨🇦”

Milk Frother (Groesche)

“A phenomenal milk frother to turn your coffee into a latte or take your hot chocolate to the next level.”

Sweet Reads Box tends to alternate between coffee one month and tea the next and I’m not a coffee drinker so this bag will go to my fella. (Possibly in his Christmas stocking. Christmas isn’t that far off!) And we had a frother years ago that’s somehow vanished so this one is welcome. I think it’s the kind of thing you have to have in sight or within quick reach to use so maybe I’ll keep it on the counter by the coffee.

Salty Caramel Crunch Dark Chocolate Bar (Camino)

“The perfect chocolate for an afternoon snack, some energy on the go, or a few quiet moments of me time. 🇨🇦”

Camino makes my favourite chocolate bar — milk chocolate with sea salt — but this one’s too dark for me. My son likes it tho and I could always smash it up to use in cookies.

Cozy Bookmark (Together with KX)

“A cute and cozy bookmark to keep your mind on Fall and mark your page. 🇨🇦”

Never enough bookmarks!

Sweet Reads Pin (Desk of Sandra)

“Our gift to you to celebrate Sweet Reads Box turning 4! This beautifully designed exclusive pin by Desk of Sandra is sure to become your favourite bookish item. 🇨🇦”

This is the cutest pin I’ve even seen. 😍😍

Fall Reads Hand Rescue (Walton Wood Farms)

“Created especially for us, this hand rescue will keep hands soft and smelling fantastic. It is perfect for keeping in your desk at work to combat dry office air. 🇨🇦”

I have another Sweet Reads Box hand cream that I really like but I’m not a fan of the spiced chai scent of this one. But I’m sure I’ll be able to gift it to someone who will enjoy it.

Cf Coffee Superfood Renewing Facial Exfoliator (Dr Botanicals)

“Whether you are up late turning pages or engrossed in solving your own mysteries, this coffee exfoliator will energize your senses and your skin. Perfect after a long night.”

I don’t like the taste of coffee but I love the smell of it and this exfoliator is ahhhhh so good-smelling! And uber gentle. Makes my skin feel so dang soft!

October’s Sweet Reads Box has lots of items I’ll be glad to share and a few (like the pin) that I’ll keep for just me. Which is fine, not every one is going to be a total hit. I’m excited to read the book eventually and I feel like my mom will love it.

Sweet Reads Box ships Canada-wide and shipping is included.
