The Beauty Edit Box Review Summer 2021

More than any other season, I find summer the trickiest when it comes to makeup and skincare in that I want to use less but expect a lot more. I want to look natural yet polished, dewy but not shiny, sun-kissed but still be sun-safe. This week I’ve been trying products from the summer The Beauty Edit Box and ‘tho it’s early days, I think I’m ready for my glow-up. 🙌 The Canadian makeup and skincare subscription service delivers full-size products from indie, luxe and mass market brands four times a year. Here’s more. *

* They kindly sent us this box for review.

The Beauty Edit Box offers two subscription options:

The (Mini) Beauty Edit Box – 4-5 mainly full size best-selling makeup & skincare products! This box is a major score. You get to try out, feel and play with some of the newest and most luxe products on the market for a fraction of the cost. Shop like a pro! $39.95 CAD.

The Beauty Edit Box (Luxe) – The ultimate makeup box experience. This box includes 8-10 full sized best selling products and deluxe samples to bring you the ultimate unboxing experience. Each box includes a range of skincare essentials and makeup. #selfcare is necessary. $74.95 CAD.

The Beauty Edit Box ships across Canada. Shipping is $7/box.

The box I’m sharing today is the Luxe version.

Each luxe box comes with a pamphlet that includes pictures and descriptions of each product, tips on how to use them and the retail price. I’ve quoted from it in italics below.

Zero by Skin Academy Face Wash (Full Size)

“An all-natural vegan gel cleanser to gently wash away traces of makeup, excess oil, pollution particles and other daily grime. With a blend of Coconut Oil, Sweet Almond oil, and Sacha Inchi Seed Oil, this naturally scented face wash leaves your skin feeling refreshed, soothed and deeply hydrated. ($26.99)”

A gentle, nourishing cleanser with no discernible fragrance. I like to do a double cleanse with this one if I’m wearing makeup and go in with a toner in between.

Zero By Skin Academy Night Cream (Full Size)

“A plant-powered cream that nourishes and rejuvenates while you sleep. Enriched with regenerating Green Tea Extract and Shea Butter, this powerful blend of all-natural ingredients restores and hydrates your skin to leave it looking fresh and well-rested. ($34.99)”

It took me a long time to come around to trying face oil for fear of breaking out and I’m not yet there with night cream so I can’t comment on this one. I should test it on my neck. Have you tried Zero’s night cream?

PÜR Cosmetics 4-In-1 Skin Perfecting Powders (Full Size)

“PÜR 4-In-1 Skin Perfecting Powders is a bronzer, blush, highlighter and powder to set your complexion with this skincare-infused multi-purpose face palette. Enriched with Energy Complex, a combination of green tea, ginseng and vitamin B to help boost the skin’s natural metabolism and rejuvenate the look of the skin. ($45)”

Some subscription boxes offer a choice between products or shades, only to then run out of your choice and leave you disappointed. I’m so happy to say that didn’t happen with The Beauty Edit Box as I really think the fair light palette in my box would work the best with my skin tone. (It’s also available in light medium or medium dark). I love that you’ve got your bronzer, blush, highlighter and powder all in one palette and they’re gorgeous together in myriad combinations. I use a light hand applying the translucent powder and the coverage is wonderful and for summer I’ve been sweeping the blush on my cheeks and across the bridge of my nose for a super sunny glow.

Crown Bushes 5 Piece ‘All Eyes On You’ Brush Set (Full Size)

“This set is designed to provide all the necessary tools for the application of all eye makeup looks. These luxuriously silky brushes assist in adding depth, definition, and allow you to accentuate your eyes. Plus they are 100% synthetic and vegan-friendly! ($42.10)”

I’m not sure how to use all these but they do feel lovely. I’ll have to do some more research. Speaking of which, did you hear Jonathan Van Ness is launching his own YouTube channel, JVN Beauty? Can you BELIEVE??!! I’m so excited I can’t wait!!

Gerard Cosmetics Clean Canvas Eye Concealer and Base (Full Size)

“This makes the perfect canvas for your eyeshadow art while minimizing the appearance of eyelid lines and increasing the wear time of any eyeshadow. Can also be used to cover blemishes as a concealer. This product does not need to be set with powder and can help you create everything from the most creative rainbow cut creases to the demure everyday office look. ($26.50)”

Such a great concealer! Fabulous coverage (a little dab will do ya!) and a great finish. Subscribers could choose between fair or medium (mine is fair).

IMAYA Retinoic Face Oil (Full Size)

“This face oil is comprised of 100% sustainably wild harvested Aguaje Oil, leaving the skin radiant and soft, while reducing the appearance of fine lines, sun spots and blemishes over long term use. ($60)”

I feel like it’s too early to see a difference for my fine lines and dark spots but my skin does feel super soft. I put it on at least 30 minutes before bed so it can fully absorb into my skin. (I don’t think it actually takes that long but the oil is yellowy orange and I’m worried it’ll stain my white pillowcase. So far so good.)

Girlactik Precise Marker Liner (Full Size)

“Designed to create a thin or thick cat winged liner. The tip is soft and precise with a weightless, long lasting, smudgeproof formula. ($27)”

Doesn’t budge, smudge or tug like some pencil formulas but I do find the marker liner more difficult to apply — my hand just isn’t as steady as I’d like it to be. Are you Team Marker or Team Pencil?

Evio Beauty Lip-Spo Gloss (Susan)

“Hydrating lip gloss for natural colour and shine. Packed with Shea butter and cocoa seed butters to hydrate and provide relief for dry lips without the stickiness. ($14)”

Subscribers received one of four shades: Susan (that’s mine), Val, Brooke or Lise. I absolutely love this colour for spring and summer — subtle but so pretty! — and it feels great on.

Finding beauty products that meet your needs can involve a lot of trial and error — for me that’s especially in the summer when I want so little to do so much. And frankly that’s time and money I’d rather spend doing something else. The summer The Beauty Edit Box saved me both by introducing me to some wonderful new products that work how I want them to in shades and formulas that suit my skin tone and feel great. And little-to-no fragrance, which I appreciate. The jury’s still out on the night cream and I’m going to need some practice with the eyeliner but overall, I’m very pleased. Summer’s The Beauty Edit Box is valued at $276.58.
