“I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library.”
— Jane Austen

The Literary Book Club currently ships across the US. It’s $74.95 quarterly + $9.95 shipping. The New Year’s Eve Box sold for $59.99 + shipping.

Literary Book Club subscribers get exclusive access to a private Facebook group where you can discuss your experience of the classics with other literary fans and enter subscriber-only giveaways.

Each of the items in the box are individually wrapped with exquisite attention to detail in the form of vintage stickers, patterns, fabrics and embellishments. Makes you want to just admire everything for a bit before opening anything up!

The contents of this box aren’t numbered like they are in the seasonal boxes so you can open them in whatever order you’d like. Not surprisingly, I chose the book-shaped item, almost always my favourite thing in any box! It’s a beautiful copy of The Chimes: A Goblin Story of Some Bells That Rang an Old Year Out and a New Year In by Charles Dickens (also known as simply The Chimes).

“Charles Dickens’ 1844 novella concerns the disillusionment of Toby “Trotty” Veck, a poor working-class man. When Trotty has lost his faith in Humanity and believes that his poverty is the result of his unworthiness he is visited on New Year’s Eve by spirits to help restore his faith and show him that nobody is born evil, but rather that crime and poverty are things created by man.”

I’d never heard of The Chimes before seeing it here but I’m very familiar with Dickens’ A Christmas Carol and the two sound very similar. (A good job he wrote both then, LOL.) I’m curious to read it and read more about it.

For the gifts we have this gorgeous pink vintage-style champagne glass, perfect for toasting the New Year. It’s even prettier in person and has a good weight to it as well. I wish there were two!

Next, a New Year, New Books candle with notes of bergamot, grapefruit, blackberries, rose, jasmine, nutmeg, patchouli, cedarwood and fir needle. I burn candles daily and this is one of my new favourites.

Oooh, and raspberry champagne cubes. “A bold infusion of all- natural raspberry with cane sugar that makes for the most exciting champagne experience!” says The Literary Book Club.

“An all-natural sugar cube, they feature a sweet, yet delicate fruit tart tart taste. Highly recommended in champagne to add a little clean raspberry taste. Can use in tea, vodka, or sparkling water too!” I haven’t tried them but they sound delicious and the cube-shape is just darling. They’re available to order directly from The Literary Book Club.

And last but not least, an artisanal chocolate bar called Sip Sip Hooray, a pink bubbly raspberry chocolate truffle bar with candies that pop. Perfect for a special occasion like New Year’s! I spent my last night of the year mopping up water in the basement and didn’t think to try it but maybe for Galentine’s with my bestie?

The Literary Book Club New Year’s Eve Box has all of the ingredients for a cozy night in with an intriguing classic and some lovely little luxuries like a celebratory bevvie, a beautiful vintage-style glass and a great-smelling candle. And all pretty in pink! I love this special edition. It really does feel extra in the best way.
