Each box will contain the book of the month plus 4-6 self care goodies that may include candles, shower or bath goods, tea or coffee, lip care, skin care, journals or notebooks, mugs, artwork or photography, bags, kitchen gadgets, baking kits, candy, bookish novelty products, and items that inspire creativity. Most items are sourced from small businesses.

The May adult fiction box theme is “Vitality”. Let’s take a closer look at what’s inside!

The Rose Code by Kate Quinn

“1940. As England prepares to fight the Nazis, three very different women answer the call to mysterious country estate Bletchley Park, where the best minds in Britain train to break German military codes. Vivacious debutante Osla has everything – beauty, wealth, and the dashing Prince Philip of Greece sending her roses – but she burns to prove herself as more than a society girl, and puts her fluent German to use as a translator of decoded enemy secrets. Imperious self-made Mab, a product of East End London poverty, works the legendary codebreaking machines as she conceals old wounds and looks for a socially advantageous husband. Both Osla and Mab are quick to see the potential in local village spinster Beth, whose shyness conceals a brilliant facility with puzzles, and soon Beth spreads her wings as the Park’s few female cryptanalysts. But war, loss, and the impossible pressure of secrecy will tear the three apart.”

“1947. As the royal wedding of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip whips postwar Britain into a fever, the three friends-turned-enemies are reunited by a mysterious encrypted letter – the key to which lies buried in the long-ago betrayal that destroyed their friendship and left one of them confined to an asylum. An enigmatic traitor has emerged from the shadows of their Bletchley Park past, and now Osla, Mab, and Beth must resurrect their old alliance and crack one last code together. But each petal they remove from the Rose Code brings danger – and their true enemy – closer…”

Journal Prompts and Signed Bookplate

Each Unplugged Book Box includes a signed bookplate by the author, a beautiful card that doubles as a bookmark, and some journal prompts. This month’s prompts center around the theme of inner strength. I try to journal regularly, but too often fall off because I don’t have time (or let’s be honest, I get lazy haha). Prompts like this are really helpful to jump start my journaling habit again.

Nevernight Lunch Bag

“This lunch bag by Azure Arts is an Unplugged Book Box exclusive inspired by Nevernight. The main character, Mia, must show strength on all of her journeys.”

This insulated lunch bag will keep your lunches warm or cold, perfect for taking to school or work. The print is so colorful and fun, with a quote from the book “Too many books, too few centuries”.

Anne of Green Gables Enamel Pin

“Journey back to this infamous childhood story with Anne, a character that has many convictions and strengths.”

I think this pin is so pretty! Anne of Green Gables is one of my favorite childhood books, and I am thrilled to have a pin inspired by the book.

Schitts Creek Cuticle Pen

“Opening Rose Apothecary in Schitts Creek was not what David Rose thought he’s do with his life, but he quickly fell in love. The characters in this Netflix TV show grow strong and likeable throughout the series!”

My cuticles are constantly dry, and keeping them moisturized, especially in colder weather is a must for me. I can’t wait to give this cuticle oil a try! Also have to mention, I love the Schitts Creek series, and am so disappointed that the show has come to an end.

The Long Walk Foot Soak

“The Long Walk by Stephen King is a futuristic horror/dystopian where contestants have to go on an annual walking contest. It takes much vitality to compete in this grueling contest. This exclusive foot soak by Well Springs Naturals will help you relax after a long, tiring day.”

I love how a foot soak ties into the story of the book! This foot soak will be amazing for a relaxing selfcare day. This contains ingredients like lavender and ginger, perfect for a detoxing soak.

The Midnight Library Coffee Scrub

“Noro is tired of her boring, disappointing life. Then, she takes a trip to the library of her mind and is given a chance at a do-over from all of her regrets. One of her biggest regrets was missing a coffee date with a stranger she might have loved. It takes strength for her to make the decision on whether to choose a new life or her old life.”

Anyone else love coffee scrubs but hate the mess they make? I find a coffee scrub so invigorating and love the scent, but it always looks like I spilled the contents of my coffee maker all over my shower after using one. Does that stop me from using them though? Absolutely not!

A Little Life Candle

“Jude from a Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara is one of the strongest literary characters we’ve ever read about. This exclusive candle smells of Jude’s many baked goodies and was made by Familiar Fragrances for this box.”

Unplugged Book Box generally includes a candle with every box, and I love that! This one smells of yummy vanilla goodness, and does remind me of a bakery.

Unplugged Book Box Review May 2021 – Final Thoughts

This is another amazing box by Unplugged Book Box! I love historical novels and a good mystery, and this book sounds amazing from reading the synopsis. Give me a good story about solving mysteries and codes any day. The bookish goodies this month did not disappoint as well. I love all the body and skincare products. The Anne of Green Gables pin is my absolute favorite thing in this box. The one thing I find less useful is the lunch bag, but that is only because I work from home nowadays and no longer have to pack a lunch. I am sure I can gift it to a friend who will really put it to good use though. I really love how Unplugged Book Box highlights small businesses each and every month. For book lovers out there, this is a book box that is definitely worth trying out!
